Guys help me out....I'm having a weak moment!!!!!!! All this new WW2 stuff is keeping me up at night...wish I had lots of room and money. The WW2 stuff is nice but really you need alot of room to collect it do you not?? The Napoleonic stuff I can control the size and it fits into any cabinet.... I love the Napoleonics and would collect them first BUT I have this urge to collect WW2 as a second choice!!

Cheers

If room is your problem here's a solution. You buy it and I'll display it at my place. It will always be yours and you can come and view it at any time or I'll send you pictures of it to let you know how good it looks.:D :D

Wellington another way will be the new display room we have here i will get my brother to post some pics for you.

Have patience my friend. Good things come to good people. You are young enough and given enough time, you will have the opportunity to grow your income, your home, your family, and your collection. I still collect Napoleonic soldiers, they take up most of my display area and they are the one series that has the most number of figures in my collection. But, you are correct the WWII series are wonderful and are worth collecting and you are not having a “weak moment.” “Patience good sir, patience is the key to all things.” I think that is a quote from Ben Franklin, if I remember my readings correctly from about 30 or 40 years ago. Michael

Wellington, I thought you were collecting World War II sets already. Didn't you get the Honey? :p

My house isn't all that small and the income isn't too bad...but I still need to remain married...lord knows why.......and I need to put food on the table.
You guys have a good idea there, I'm starting to buy the stuff just give me your addresses and I'll start shipping...which do you prefer..UPS or CANPAR??....LOL.....:) :)

For one of my display shelves I can display 50 -60 figures or one tank.....

I want it all I tell you all of it..........:D I am so hooked I may sell the family car.

Cheers

LOL...Brad thats too funny..I forgot about that gues You owe me one

It does take a lot of room and that is why I basically built an entire room dedicated to my collection. Actually when we had an addition built on our house I converted our old kitchen to the K+C WWII display room. I am already out of room. I have to whole room set up in chrolonogical order starting from Berlin 1938 and ending at Iwo Jima.

Where the heck am I going to put the Romans and Barbarians that I must own. Time to build another addition!!

Wellington, if you are starting to think like that, trust me, you will cave in and buy one WW2 set "just to check it out" and that will be your downfall.
The problem with waiting is as you know, this stuff does not get cheaper down the road.
By the way, when I first started with K&C it was only going to be WW2 Marines & Japanese, well 4 years later it,s everything military that K&C makes. I did resist the Egyptian Line, although the pieces were beautiful.

Here's a suggestion for Andy.......He should sell DIVORCE insurance with every set he sells...I think it would be beneficial!!

Really guys I spend about $500-$600 every two months and really thats alot for a hobby, as much as I'd like too, I think some how I have to remain firm on not even looking at other sets too much or I will be hooked.....I HATE HAVING OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER..I REALLY DO.....

I know the feeling. I orginally started to collect the Afrika Korp, but went wild and started to get all the other WW2 series. I have run out of room and can't keep up with all the new releases, so I am paring down my collection back to the Afrika Korp. My suggestion is to pick a series that you like the most and concentrate on it.

Words of wisdom from Flammenpanzer.......I use the same words but sometimes I get jaded and forget my own advice....thanks for reminding me....

By the way it is the AK sets which are giving me the weak momment....GREAT line you have chosen...the best in the WW2 stuff in my opinnion!!!

Wonder if the guys that collect the Napoleonic stuff, choose one of the sub categorys to collect or do they collect it all?

I try not to get too many lines of K&C. It is not easy. I did get AK Rommel set but that and Marine amtrak are the only vehicles I bought. I did get Marine sets, some BOB guys and I am buying ARW figures. I would love the Napoleonics but have to draw the line somewhere. Just don'thave space and funds to get it all. I know it is hard to resist all the new stuff. John

Wellington,

Be strong! Be very strong! I know you are in the throes of an Obsessive-Compulsive crisis, but, this too will pass. Well, maybe not.....

Hi Wellington
If collectors realy are obsesive compulsive [i,m not admitting anything here]
Then asking advice about restraint on this forum would be a bit like having an AA meeting at a pub ;) .
I try to just buy a single piece i paticularly like and build a small scene around it with a few sets, that way i can cover a few ranges without blowing the budget. The only K and C napoleonics i have are the Blackwatch who are currently attacking a german 88 mm gun at this point:D.[my moneys on the scots].

For me personally, obsessive compulsive is for beginners. And that’s no s@#t.

Being a retired Navy guy, I am prone to telling (to anyone who will listen that is) what are commonly referred to as "Sea-Stories." Sea-Stories are commonly told to get a good laugh or to impress someone with a rare experience or some such similar type motive. They typically begin with the phrase, "Now this is no s@#t, but... (Insert any tall tale here)" and I hesitate to begin this posting with anything like that; but, now this is no s@#t, I have several illnesses and a couple of them are bi-polar disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder.

I don't know sometimes how many of the comments made by some of us on this forum are jokes or jokes hiding a reality. Some of them are very good jokes. But, with some of the associated behavior of obsessive-compulsive disorder, a collector could become shall we say overly involved in their purchases. I hope that is not true of any of us, but with the population statistics as they are, some of us are bound to be as a simple statistical matter. I speak from practical experience. Seek medical assistance and get help. Help does exist. Good help. Either therapy or medication or a combination can definitely help.

Now I am not saying someone in particular is crazy (other than me), but the signs are here and I feel a need to express this thought because you are all my friends and friends should help each other. I hope my statements offend no one, but a mental disorder is the same as any other physical disease and they can either be cured or remediated. All I am trying to say is what the old balding Desk Sergeant on that old great television cop show Hill Street Blues used to say, “Just be careful out there.” Michael

Discipline Wellington, Steady lads, steady.

Budget yourself and stick to it. Not easy I know. If you can resist the temptation for starting to collect another period, it might just fade away like a passing fever. Not that it won't come back , no doubt it will.
If you buy one set, you'll want another.
Budget yourself.Buy WW2 this month. Next month get some more Napoleonics but don't go beyond what you have determined as your budget.
Your collections will grow at a steady rate. You're young yet!

Someone started a similar thread to this on a US diecast aircraft forum that I frequent, and it had a huge response. I was surprised at the number of guys that admitted they do have a problem - they just can't stop buying model aircraft. It was causing financial and family problems and several said that have attended counciling seassions to try and reduce their mania, which is what it can become apparently. I guess we have all seen tv programs showing some sad individual (in our eyes) that can't stop collecting newspapers etc to the degree that they end up with few place where they can sit down. If you translate that to lack of shelf space for figures etc - well you guys get the message.

With over thirty years experience in collecting I've managed to control (mostly) my 'problem' by sticking to one period, being World War Two and in that I concentrate mainly on Germans. They don't have many opponents to fight but they haven't complained yet - if they do, I guess I'll really have a problem :)

If I do happen to cross the 'period' line and buy a WWI or Napoleonic piece that I really, really like, I just treat it as an 'error' rather than let it become an excuse to go wild on more pieces from that period. More often than not I end up selling (at a reasonable price) or trading the 'error'.

Here are a few collecting tips to help control the 'problem':

1) After you establish your favourite period, stick to it as best you can.

2) Adopt a cooling off period. If you collect Napoleonic and see a WWII piece 'you must have'. Just say to yourself: "I'll give it a few weeks and see how I feel then". I can assure you that in several weeks you have most likely forgot about that piece and feel pleased with yourself that you didn't buy it.

3) Don't be a completist. It's stupid to buy every figure or vehicle in a range as you always end up with stuff you didn't really like but just bought because it fits.

4) Just buy the pieces you like. Don't be persuaded into buying a figure or set just because someone else on a forum says: "I'm going to get it", OR "it's sure to become rare" OR, It's soon to be retired", OR "It will appreciate in value heaps and you'll make a fortune selling it".

5) Avoid 'investment' buying. I know it's tempting to buy a rare piece even if you don't collect that period so you can resell it to finance 'your' buys. Just remember you are removing a piece from the shop shelf that some poor 'fellow collector' that does collect that period is trying to get.

I'm sure I'll get some critical or sarcastic (the lowest form of wit) remarks about my suggestions. But you may not be aware that they may be the same people that sell on eBay at high 'Buy It Now' prices etc. And their eBay 'handle' is not always the same as their forum name - some have several 'aliases'. How do I know, let's just say I spent many years in bank fraud investigating and debt recovery so I've learnt some tricks of the trade. Of course there are also the Labrador pup types that run around the forum saying how great 'something' is, but they don't mean any harm - they're just excited :)

So yes, the man is correct: "you be carefull out there".

Wise words Ozdigger. Very true and excellent advise for all of us.
Too much of anything will lead to problems.
My wife has joked we would end up on the DR.PHIL show regarding my addiction to miniatures.
