Wee War Comics (1 Viewer)

Aaaaaeeeeiiiiii......!!!!!
Do you guy's realise that if I order all the great reading material you're putting under my nose on top of the stuff I've already ordered from K&C UK - and the DVD's that've been suggested, then chances are I won't be able to get those Red & Green Devils in January/February.....sob.....:(:p:eek::p:eek:

The one thing I remembered about the toy soldier I got out of the back of the comics was the tanks had a little rubber band and would blow up when you touched it. Well snap in half to be more precise. It was fun for a minute anyways:rolleyes:The Revolutionary war ones where my favorites out of a comic though.

Thanks for these links. It does allow me to satisfy my curiosity. These comics were made for the US market and sold in SA as is. Advertisements included. I too spent many afternoons drooling over these great pictures of Romans, American War of Independece and modern US soldiers. They were like a dream. There was no way a nine year old boy was going to convince his parents to organize a bank draft for foreign currency and post this off to a PO Box in America. They were a dream always beyond my reach. I serioulsy believed that every American boy my age had whole beautiful armies of exotic soldiers. So I am glad to finally see some of the sets that I dreamed about. Thank you for the links. The art work was great.

Brad, I too read Classic Comics and I used them to do book reports rather than read the boring hard cover novel.

Let the first one who says they didn't do that stand up. Don't see anybody. We all plead guilty :D

As I type, I am looking at the entire " NAM " series, as well as Swamp Thing, and most of the Judge Dredds.in my office......sold my 200 plus, Army at Wars, G.I. Combats, and Weird Wars........also collected Gunner and Sarge ( cannot remember original title ) That sale was one of my dumber moves......Michael

Wasn't the tank possessed by the ghost of JEB Stuart?

This is a great thread! I didn't realise that there was/are so many different War Comics.

Found this pic.

They were difficult to find Jeff but you could get them in the UK. They didn't sell them at the local newsagent, but the specialist comic shops used to have them. :) No idea if they're still available.

For me the "military" comic of choice was Sad Sack ! Still have all of them from when I was a kid and my 14 year old been reading them for years already. Bit tattered though. Are they still around in USA or no longer produced ?
Those interested in comic style should check out www.ospreygraphichistory.com as Osprey in the last year have been releasing factual comics. So far seem very USA related with ACW and Pearl Harbour, Midway and Iwo Jima. Battle of Bulge coming out soon and judging by a poll on that site Waterloo is likely, plus Thermopylae.

Wow Brett,
These look extremely interesting. The artwork looks good too. I'd be most interested in the Midway, Battle of the Bulge and Thermopylae titles.
:)

Yes they are pretty good. 6 pounds sterling is RRP. Good for giving to kids to get them interested in history at an early age. The Midway one for example has six pages of facts incl map, brief mention about commanders and some info on the carriers the impact of the battle on the war.
Since you are in China you might have to order through Hong Kong. They are of course printed in China ! I remember there was a book shop ten years ago in Pacific Place (near a certain Toy Soldier shop but on a different level ) that had a decent range of military books. K&C no doubt will know the best place for Osprey in HK. Or could buy in UK.
Regards Brett
PS We need more Empire troops on the forum !
