There's a bit of debate about prices on the K&C pages and I hadn't really appreciated what WB have done for us as customers and the hobby in general.

One of the posters pointed out that using figures 20011 and the soon to be released 20113 as an example, WB have managed to keep the inevitable price increases to a minimum. 4% over five years apparently using these two figures as a comparison. That is pretty impressive.

I for one would like to say thank you to Richard and co and also apologise for taking what they do for us as customers for granted. Of course I will still keep on about a Gallipoli range but that's because I'm a pest!

I doff my hat to you Richard.

I want to join in here and use the opportunity to thank Britains.
Great products at moderate prices.
Job well done, Richard!

Gentle Friends,

I, too, want to raise my voice in appreciation of W. Britains and their efforts to contain prices. The result if hugely appreciated.

I also want to thank Richard in particular for the tireless work he puts in as General Manager of the company. Further, the warmth and friendship he communicates to collectors demonstrates his high character, his passion for the hobby, and his commitment to excellence. Thank you, Richard for all you do!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I have collected the WB matte Zulu range since set# 20000 - iNdluyengwe Regiment--STANDING FIRING and I have all of the releases including MODELZONE and Club figures, the RRP of set# 20011 - ZULU WARRIOR--ADVANCING WITH KNOBKERRIE in 2008 was £16.99

Cheers

Martyn:)

Re: Well Done & Thank You - Rewriting history

Little bit of rewriting history here, the prices of the first Zulus were well below £20 when they first came out and prices have rose was more than the person who started this claimed.

Lets look at the His of the Brit Army - started off at £9,.99 and now £19.99 Plus

War of the Nile figures have gone up from £22 to nearly £27

Agree on K & C, proces much cheaper in other countries,

WHY - UK prices set by the guys in UK [do not blame Andy] and people are willing to pay it.

I like Britains for three reasons...
The Sculpting, the Painting style, and price....works for me!

As others have stated I like the sculpting and painting of the WB figs. And the price range is $27-30 on most foot figs, as compared to the newly listed $42 per KC piece. Both are made in China, so the higher labor cost rationale doesn't hold much value. Chris

I think they are excellent value for money and thankfully (to me) they are still affordable.

Indeed, thank you Richard and Britains! The efforts put forth by Richard consistently awe me that someone so high up in a company would care so much and put forth so much effort. While we could all cry about shelling out money, this is our hobby and for my money W Britain will always have a loyal customer. The products that they produce and the great customer service have time and again renewed my faith.

Dear Gentlemen - thank you for the kind words. And thank you for supporting W. Britain. I would like to address a number of things this issue raises
1) We did see some dramatic price increases for the first 2-4 years of W. Britain under First Gear - the reasons for this were many - increased quality of sculpting (RC2 had the figures sculpted in China, we decided to use Ken and Alan instead, who are not only American and British, therefore commanding a higher wage, but also in my opinion very talented sculptors who are intimately familair with military history, material culture and equipage, all of which also warranted a much higher wage than Chinese sculptors - many of whom I have also found are very talented - so please do not take this as a swipe against them, it is simply my personal preference). Painting quality also increased greatly with the use of new factories and more highly trained painters. At the same time the world economy, as we all know now, was in full overdrive, making the cost of raw materials - metals, packaging, foam, etc. go through the roof while at the same time wages in China were increasing by double digits every year. A perfect storm of price increases!
2) In the last 3-4 years, we have been a in worldwide recession, this cooled raw material increases, tempered the wage increases in China and allowed us to slow down (unfortunately not stop) the price increases of the first few years. And to be frank, we feel we reached a nice level of quality that gave collectors great value for what we charged, so you did not see dramatic increases due to quantum leaps in quality - though I do believe all along we continue to ramp up sculpting and painting each year - albeit more incrementally now.
3) I have just come back from China and they are not sure what will happen next year. The safe bets are modest wage increases, raw materials should hold steady, exchange rates - who knows - but also should remain steady and possibly even improve slightly for us.
4) Ken, Alan, our master painters Dave, Wendy, Ted, Chip, our resin casters, and the staff at First Gear have been on wage freezes for four years now. Of course on a personal note from all of us that is not fun (but many are facing this across the world of course, so we are not crying in our beer), but on a more realistic note, we all have good solid jobs because we have remained competetive, profitable and strongly in business through these challenging times, the company does what is it can in other ways to look after us and lets face is we are ALL pretty passionate about this business and avocation, we love what we are doing. All of this has also helped to keep prices in check.
5) As I have mentioned before here, we have kept staff to an absolute minimum - 3-4 full/part time at First Gear and the rest as independent contractors.
6) The usphot of all this is that we intend to keep our pricing very competitive while still striving to give the absolute best quality possible. So in 2013 we will see some VERY small price increases.

I think that covers it. And we will get to Gallipoli, Isandlwana...someday, hang in there, I know you're not patient! Again, thank you guys for the words of encouragement.

Richard

Thank you for another informative and detailed response to the ongoing pressures of keeping one and all as happy as can be possible in this current climate.

Forewarned is forearmed and I think that is all to the good, so power to you Richard.

As for the last comment, I have removed the dust from my porcelain piggy bank and have deposited my first few pennies in anticipation:)
