What collectors want from JJD (1 Viewer)

I happened to be in the Gettysburg Antique Center yesterday and noticed they had signs indicating that JJ stuff was 20% off. They have a ton of stock there. I don't necessarily endorse it as being the most customer friendly place just noting if you are looking for something it might be worth a call.

Jacobite rebellion: artillery and lots of Jacobite casualties.

would also like more old Yangzhou villagers........ not enough Asian/South-East Asian stuff on the market in general. some village huts would be very welcome also and could be deployed in multiple periods.

Hi,
I would also like to see some walls to go with my St Louis gate (POA) .At the moment life is far too easy for my Brits as they just walk around the Gate and take the French by surprise!!

Johnboy:)

village huts...walls...buildings...structures...etc...

John does excellent architectural sculpting...

he has a deep background in theater design...

he is good at this and these are becoming more popular for the collector to display his collections...

this is an area he needs to expand...

things that are versatile for many collectors...

not just his JJD fans...

It's a good thing that we, as fans of John and his magnificent work, don't want too much from him. Somehow I can't help but think that one day John will leave the crazy world of TS behind and turn his huge talent to a less stressful pursuit such as basket weaving. :rolleyes2:{eek3}^&grin -- Al

....firstly, to echo the already positive comments about the great solo work by John, and acknowledging that the range of releases by JJD are truly sublime, each very wonderful and creative....his work never disappoints...

...secondly, my Mum would have not been pleased with me if I had ever said "I want" (I distinctly recall being walloped when pushing my luck as a child ! {eek3}) ....instead, I would like, should circumstances allow and John is able to juggle with such wish-lists from we supporters of the JJD output....more additions to the Jacobite Rebellion range...

Jacobites :-

Prince Charles - the man himself, it's bound to happen at some point...

Prince Charles Standard bearer...

Prince Charles Lifeguards / or some Bagot's Hussars - various poses, simply because they are so unusual !...

Royal Ecossois - we've had three great Officer figures (two of which had fantastic Standards), but how about a RE Piper, Drummer, or a couple more RE "in action" poses...their uniforms are very striking....

Lowlanders - ...a good few more (please!) ...in various poses.....and I suppose a few more tartan wearing Highlanders wouldn't go amiss :wink2:

Irish Picquets - ...I favour the uniform of Regiment Lally.....the green facings make it look an attractive colour scheme...

Government :-

British Line 'Hat-man' & 'Grenadier' firing kneeling.......and possibly another variation of the BJ-03 'British Foot Defending' set......to add greater selection of poses...

Royal Artillery Officer / Gunners posed to work an artillery piece...(and said artillery piece)...... = we still await our wish-list winner "British Artillery Crew Defending"

Cobham Dragoons - ...Officer / flag bearer (?) / bugler (?)

Argyle Militia (Highland Independent, etc) - ...in various poses....to break down the Culwhiniac walls to allow the Dragoons to flood through...

....finally, again acknowledging that the JJD work is fantastic....it is because of these figures that I took the plunge into collecting and have enjoyed every purchase ever since.......more, more, and more please !

like many others my main interest is in the FIW, so I make some wishes (with pictures).
60th Royal American artillery, drummer, flag etc, a new Blockhouse with stockade, French and British civilians, naval cannon for garrison, Quebec St Louis Gate walls and a supply wagon with horses.... too much???
Cheers
Carlo

Yes, please, to the Royal Americans!

In scrappin' poses! I don't mind some soldiers a'marching to the scrappin' but I 'ain't a'fixin' to buy no more standin' round poses.

But remember I play games instead of building vignettes, so my wants may not reflect the majority {sm4}

And if I'm wishing, I'm wishing for Canadian civilians and militia. . . and Gage's 80th. . . and some Quebec Rangers in black and blue. . . and . . .

Bests,
Chris

I'm not sure if John will ever see this thread...

but let me tell you something about Mr. John Jenkins...

and I'm not claiming to be in constant contact with him on a daily basis...
I'm not...
that's hardly even close to the truth...
but we have in the past and still do share conversations about his product and work ethics...

John wants you happy...
he's interested in your suggestions...
he's interested about his customers desires...
he's concerned about historical accuracy in his reproduction...
he's interested in critiques and corrections...

he actually likes feedback from collectors on mistakes...
he welcomes rivet counters...

he has corrected mistakes in the past...
I remember a plane he was releasing that had the wrong style insignia...
he pulled it out of production and corrected it before releasing it...

John wants you happy...

in my heyday of collecting...

I used to send him suggestions all the time...

he always responded to them...

he never said no to any idea I suggested...
never flat out said "no way"...
he was always polite and said I may do that in the future...

he would always say..."I'll put it on your wish list"...

we had a standing joke where John would say my wish list was now longer than his scheduled work load...

he will listen to you...

he has made some figures I requested...

a bagpiper for Culloden...
a Jesuit priest for St. Francis...
maybe some others...

perhaps he was gonna make these figures with or without my suggestion...

but I like to think he made them for me...

I'm sure John would seriously consider any suggestion you send him...

You are exactly right about John. I e-mail him from time to time and he always responds and addresses my concerns and wishes.
We have met in NY several times, once staying at my home, and have had great conversations on history and his work. He loves what he is doing!
Mike has hit it on the head in reference to John's expertise in producing buildings and scenic products. Long gone are the days when collectors were
satisfied with using shoe boxes for structures and lining up their figures on a table with no scenery. John's background in designing theatre sets lends
well to this endeavor and again agreeing with Mike older style European buildings can cover many eras........16th Century through WWII with no problem.
Creating small dioramas and shelf displays with scenery and structures seems to be the norm for collectors these days.

John is an all around nice guy. I've had the opportunity to meet him only a couple times but was surprised that he remembered me from the forum and things that we had talked about probably years ago. He even gave me one of the BM-01 master sets because it was the only one that I hadn't been able to get my hands on even as an early collector. It has a very special place in my collection. And the fact that he makes a great line of toy soldiers doesn't hurt. I look forward to the new releases and packages every month like x-mas day. My son who is six recognizes the boxes and insists they be put in place first thing. There is no peace until it gets done. Among the first words he learned are "touch with your eyes not your hands!" It makes me nervous when he advances on them like Godzilla on Tokyo but so far no casualties in the ranks.

hahaha...

words to live by...

I like him already...

on another note...

John has an expression...

"it's harder to manufacture a series...than to collect one"...

Absolutely spot on Mike. He is indeed a incrededibly talented guy. (at one stage, runner up in the Mid Wales Fencing Tournament as well....!)
I remember early on into John's WW1 series (I think around when the first Whippet, "Musical Box" came out) James from JJD UK told me to expect some amazing WW1 terrain to come along at some point.
(I think he had actually seen some on one of his visits to John.) Here's hoping..................

Hello chaps

Just to echo what has already been stated, John is a thoroughly nice guy. He is without doubt passionate about what he does and also very skilled.

His release list every month far exceeds what I could hope to spend all year but that's ok. The thrill of the chase when you find a longed for figure or set on a show table.

If I could suggest any set to be sculpted then I would love to see a British/ common wealth stretcher party on a par with that wonderful French set. The RAMC still hold the record for VCs I believe.

Enjoy your week ends where ever you may be.

Regards

Glynn

This is my first posting on this forum. I started collecting the Spanish Republicans tanks and riders and have now gone full steam ahead for the Culloden and the various FIW ranges. I am trying to seek out some of the retired figures especially the French officers and drummers. I hope we will see further Jacobites in perhaps Grenadiers for the Royal Ecossais and a Lowland officer. Perhaps some International Brigaders to keep up with the tanks.

O.K. this is actually one of my more brilliant ideas. High on my wish list is an officer conference for Ticonderoga. Campaign tent maybe some tables plus commanding officers from the various regiments and others such as another Rogers figure, Naval Officers, head of the artillery, and Engineers. Two or three officers from the 44th - its hot so feel free put the 44th in their white linen "Braddock" trousers.

Of course James Abercomby and Brig General Thomas Gage. Many figures can do double duty in other scenes and locations -- especially in you happen to have a large fort in your basement.

British Regular Regiments present:

27th Foot
42nd Black Watch
44th Foot
46th Foot
55th Foot
60th Foot

Royal Artillery

Roger Rangers
Connecticut Rangers
New Hampshire Rangers

Massachusetts (6 colonial regiments)
Connecticut (4 colonial regiments)
New York (3 Battalions)
New Jersey (1 regiment)
Rhode Island (1 regiment)
New Hampshire (1 regiment)

Lt. Col. Bradstreet with 1,600 Battoemen (A lot of room for non-standard dress).
Sir William Johnson with 400 Iroquois (Dress him appropriately).

I already have it - The Wars of the Roses - for which heartfelt thanks.

As for anything else (just icing on my JJD cake) the following would be very welcome to bolster my collection:

British passengers for the Old Bill Bus (please!)
French mechanics for the Knights of the Skies series (and French Armour)
Horses, riders and limber for the French 75mm Gun
More marching Poilus
Leuthen Prussian Grenadier Standard bearer and drummer (charging to use with the attack on the gateway)
Officer, drummer and Standard Bearer for the Austrian Gateway defenders
More British WW1 tank crew in none combat poses

Cheers,

Roy

WWII.. More Spanish Civil War.. Figures same or better quality as First Legion..

Besides Cairnbeg's great list of suggestions ( all I'd buy if produced :) ), I'd like to see John use some the creative ideas he is putting into the French WWI ''Parade of Wounded'' and portray the retreating Jacobite Army as the Royal Eccosois & Irish Pickets attempt to hold back charging Dragoons.....
There is a lot of material here to create a stirring display of the closing stages of the Battle of Culloden.
