What Do You Do For A Living (2 Viewers)

John,

Welcome. Glad to have you.

Rob,

It wasn't really intended to be what "you've done" but since lawyer isn't exactly exciting, I thought I'd spice it up with my previous lives. Keep 'em comin'.

Hi there,
John here.
In the Midlands UK.

I am a retired Physical Training Instructor, I still run and swim every day, and I have not put on an ounce of weight since I left the Royal Navy in 1964, weighing 160 llbs.

I hold the World Record for remaining on a treadmill (Stationary) and I love to write fiction. So much so, it has become a strong compulsion, each time I sit at my PC. I just can't stop making up stories.

At least you can rely on the fact that I was a PTI! I will leave the rest to your imaginations. :D

Welcome aboard Metalwayze! Like your sense of humor.

I’ve been in the telecommunications for 27 years and counting; first with Pacific Telephone/ AT&T as an engineer then in sales for last 19 years in sales providing business solutions to mid and large size business enterprises globally and domestically with AT&T, Lucent and Avaya. Has it really been that long? LOL

Man, you think the toy soldiers industry has changed since 1980; it’s nothing like what has happened in my industry only the best remain in this challenging and competitive industry. I say this mostly for the wonderfully talented people I’ve worked with in especially the last ten years who had the discipline and desire to keep their skill set relevant.

Fortunately, I’m still fascinated by the technology and the business benefits my clients derive from their investments.

I Still Work At The Zoo. I Keep Asking For Some Polar Bears But My Request Are Never Granted.

I graduated from Old Dominion a few years back and have been sort of bouncing around in odd jobs. But I have truly discovered my life's calling and am going back to school to be an elementary teacher. Between school, work, son, I don't have much free time. I usually rely on birthdays, Christmas, etc. for soldiers.

I project manage aircraft repairs for the entire Bombardier aircraft range and many third party aircraft also. Prior to that I worked for one of the large UK banks.

I've been in the Belgian Army with the Infantry.. Now a days I work as an operator in a factory in shifts..

Greetings,

Ian

This is my first post, although I've been reading the forum for around 6 months now. I'm an Engineer in the Oil Industry working 5 weeks on and 5 weeks off. Come from Aberdeen Scotland. Presently living in Dubai, UAE - but we're relocating back to Dalian, China (wife's hometown) in September.
Began collecting about 2 years ago. Mainly K&C WW2, S of Old HK, and just recently, NAP's.
"Better Half" wasn't too sure at first, but now she's just as keen as I am on K&C's excellent ranges. Her favourite series, next to S of Old HK is Berlin 1938 (?)....Which kinda explains a lot....!!
One of the positive aspects of relocating back to China is that I've persauded (okay - conned) my company into agreeing to routing me via Hong Kong on my way in and back out again. So, every 5 weeks, I'll have a chance to visit K&C's shop in HK. ('Ray). And this will make things a lot cheaper than paying the horrendous import duty I pay, every time I order a new package of figurines from the UK or USA. More money to spend on K&C, I reckon.
Okay, I've bored you guy's enough for the time being.
I'm presently stuck in a hotel in Tripoli, Libya, and my driver's turning up in 10 minutes to take me to the local fish market for dinner tonight - so |I'd better get cracking.

Cheers to All
H

Welcome to the forum Harry!
Looking forward to your posts being as frequent as your Hong Kong purchases, which I'm sure will be many.
Kid in a sweet shop syndrome! :) Nice move on the HK re-route.

Simon

Thanks for the welcome Wraith & Brad.
Yeah, the HK routing was a master-stroke of fast talking.
Apparently I'm a famous name at the post office in Jebel Ali, Dubai, according to our company driver. They seem to think I'm running some kind of an import business due to the amount of packages full of K&C figurines that turn up addressed to me at regular intervals. Little do they know that the customs duty can be up to 60% of the original price of each order. Incidentally, I do tend to wonder what the UAE customs make of it when they open each package (as they invariably do) and are confronted with K&C Naps etc.
Oh well, here's looking forward to sneaking my future HK purchases past Chinese customs - which is pretty ironic given that China's where they're made in the first place (?) Guess I'll just have to claim that they're presents for My Precious Little Lotus Blossom's family - or something....!!!! :D:

Cheers

Hope there not as unforgiving as the UK Customs. ;)

Harry

Welcome - Always glad to have another Napoleonic Collector in the Ranks :D

Thanks to you also for the welcome Ron. This forum is certainly interesting to read through every few days and seems to attract some, very knowledgable characters.
My most recent purchase from the good people at Treefrog was the complete series of the Scots Greys charge at Waterloo.....What magnificent quality.....They'll look quite awesome once I get them displayed properly.
Meanwhile, although I'm a commited K&C admirer, think I'll be revisiting WW2, and my next order will include one of those Puma's and the Lynx put out by MNA.

Cheers

Cheers Irishman!

I fly those lovely Bombardier aircraft-the 50 seater years back and now the 70 & 90 variants. I am very close to landing a corporate flying job which would entail flying a Challenger 300 or Challenger 604. Personally, I like the 300 with the Honeywell systems! Any input would be appreciated. Oh, they also want a mid-size jet and are looking at the Hawker 800XP. I told them to take a look at the Lear 60 or the newer Lear 60XR. Any good sales points and or mx advantages you could think of for the Challenger 300 and Lear 60 would really help me out. Thanks for your time.

Tally Ho,
Beaufighter
