I do some small, temporary dios right now- my kids are still kind of young so I have to be careful- unfortuantely, my youngest smashed up one of my old Waffen sets pretty good- I can appreciate his zeal, just wish he took a different target.

Once I settle down and near retirement, I will break them out for good.

I have taken them to work for display in my office. I always get a lot of positive comments and discusssions generated.

I build small dioramas using old American Dimestore soldiers that I restore.

I like them. If I had more room I would collect them! I do have a few but they are smaller dimestores:)

A future project I really hope comes to fruition is called "Dustoff"

Now this is a good 15-20 years into the future, when i am thinking about retiring.

I picked up a bunch of the 1:6, 4" 21st Century toys Viet Nam figures- including the Huey. I want to have a diorama similar to museums where you can press a button and the Huey will come down and land and near a Hot LZ. In the background will be playing "Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Several years ago, I actually dug a trench network in my front yard for the 12" Barbed Wire and Bayonets figures- I had 5 German Strosstruppen assaulting a position held by the Black Watch. It was cool and always got comments. I considered buying the 12" scale Bradley that they put out many years ago and digging an IFV improved fighting position in the yard but that may have required a back hoe :D :D

The first time I visited Jim Hillestad's Toy Soldier museum, when I got out of the car and started walking towards the museum (a separate house on his property) I was blown away by a 12 inch (G.I. Joe) scale column of Allied vehicles (I remember a couple of jeeps and a half track, maybe a weapons carrier) coming out of the treeline, being attacked by a Stuka hung from the branches of a tree. It looked so real! I would love to see your Vietnam LV with the Huey.

Timemachine Store in Singapore have brillant vietnam trench diormama in 1/6, I took some photo's but they didn't come out great, I'll see if I can dig up the photo's but it was a really impressive use of space and had a command post
incorporated also
Harry the Heid was there also and he might have a couple:)

Unfortunately, my photos didn't turn out too well either. But its a really great diorama - especially in this scale.

Some nice photos there Cap.
Have you thought about posting some of your dioramas in the appropriate section of the forum? Its probably, for me anyway, the most interesting section here and is crammed full of really hot dios and great ideas.
The vast majority of the contributors there are the most extremely helpful and genuinely pleasant members of this forum IMO.
I take it that the ACW is your main era of interest then? :):) You and UKReb ought to get along like a house on fire. If I may suggest, a perusal of his excellent ACW diorama is an experience worth repeating over and over again.
Cheers
H

Thank you fo the kind words Harry. Yes I have both thought of posting in the dio section and seen the UKReb's terrific work. I thought this thread would be a good way to "test the waters" before I posted something along side all those beautiful expert dio's.

I have a few small dioramas, but most of figures are in curios either here at the house or at work. I wish I had more room!

Display what I can. Change them around to my liking. Most are boxed wish I could display more.

I am luck to have, space in my basement and a gentile and comprehensive wife who allows me to monopolise this space.

Please my friend, don’t be….your work is as good as anyone on this forum + your sense of humour deserves a big CHEERS…

I have enough room for about 10 small diorama's. The first Diorama I ever made was with the entire retired William Britain Big Red One infantry, which also includes the WB Patton and Bradley It also includes the 75mm pak Howitzer set as well as a self detailed FOV Normandy M4A3 Sherman. I call it "Patton & Bradley-Operation Cobra 1944". Even though I have several other Diorama's with K&C, Honour Bound, and Figarti products, My very first Britain display will always be my favorite.

I make smaller dioramas because a) I don't have to buy as many soldiers--it is cheaper b) it takes up less space c) the detail in each individual figure can be better apprectiated.

I keep them boxed then once I get new room I put them in there. I buy 2 of every limted edition and some of them I don't even open.
