What happen to the crusades??? (1 Viewer)

I agree g18, Robert of Abottsinch (yes, I cheated and looked up the spelling :p)
is one of my favorite mounted figures along w/ Sir Walter....I'm sure happy I had already grabbed both of them - in fact, these two might be my two very favorite mounted Crusaders.

Good for you, Joe - Sir Walter is also going the way of the Dodo...

I like the Three Lions detail on Richard Lionheart - another sword-welder. From what I have read, King Richard uses a double-handed broad sword - so I am assuming he lost that in the heat of battle and have to settle for a smaller one in the K&C depiction. Another note-worthy one is the mounted Templar with the banner (MK066) - the most dramatic horse pose by K&C crusade at the moment - on 2 legs (and a tail). I hope we can have the upcoming mounted crusaders (with swords drawn, of course!) on horses charging with 2 legs off the ground - imagine the drama and power

So if the leaks are correct, it sounds as though we'll be getting at least one Saracen and one Crusader on camels. That should be incredibly neat........so Arabian. The K&C mounted Medieval figures juts keep gettingb better with every new release. The two newest mounted Templars are just fabulous. However, Robert is one of my favorite mounted figures. Very dynamic, animated pose and quite unique. He's awfully nice, to be getting retired so quickly. All these Crusades retirements since the last release make me think we may be in store for quite a number of exciting new pieces in the next release.

I did not know that King Richard's weapon of choice was a double-handed broad sword:eek:...it would seem so unwieldy on horseback, but that sure would be deadly to be struck from above by a two-handed broad sword:eek:! K & C's depiction of him is really incredible- so powerful. Sometimes I wish they had placed him on a charging horse, but I just imagine the pose is from the very beginning of the charge command. I have MK066 too, and I absolutely agree; the in-motion drama of that piece is almost tangible. I like your idea for a future release....I'd place him right alongside King Richard.

Yes indeed, I can't wait to see how K & C has designed the figures on camels...they are certain to be very popular. I agree wholeheartedly about Robert, very dynamic indeed....that one pose showcases K & C very well, and would be one of my nominees for figure of the year if there were such a "contest" or "award ceremony". I am a bit surprised he is getting retired so relatively soon, but I assume it's because the allotments of Roberts were manufactured in one or two production runs, and once those are gone, it was perhaps predetermined that he would be deemed retired....just speculative, of course. But I'm sure glad I picked one up. I hope you are right in your assessment that accumulation of Cross & Crescent retirements may correlate w/ a significant forthcoming release. One things for sure, it's just a matter of time, and it's great to have that to look forward to.

Hope you right, George. You are the Crusades specialist

I stand corrected on the double-handed broad sword but that's what I read many years ago. Those pictures of Richard wielding that giant sword and slashing every infidel within striking distance is a sight to behold  He was on foot and not on a horse, though ;)

My sentiments exactly about placing Richard on a charging horse! That would be awesome! Make that two new mounted sword-wielding knights on prancing horses on each side of King Richard. ;)

I hope that k&c have more action poses for the knights. because there are too many crusaders that are just standing around. plus, I would like to see more men-at-arms, because there were more of them then knights at that period. I will cross my fingers.

I too would like to see more men-at-arms. There aren't enough of them. I've converted quite a few of them, in order to have more men-at-arms in my ever-developing siege dio, but I still don't have enough. Those archers in the previous release are wonderful and add a lot to any scene. It seems to me that King & Country has shifted away from a Saracen walled city siege approach with their knights to an Arab village approach. They just discontinued their siege tower, and the catapult and siege ladders are long gone. The JG Miniatures walled city has probabaly pretty much run its cycle. I may be wrong, but I'm guessing that most people who wanted such a thing have gotten it by now. Now King & Country can sell their own desert village buildings to go with their Medieval figures. There will be a great looking new temple/mosque coming out soon, which will compliment the exhisting desert village pieces. I'm pretty sure you won't see any more siege equipment, but will see more complimentary pieces for the desert village and temple. That desert village was a brilliant decision on the part of K&C. I love the three pieces I've added to my walled city siege diorama and am wondering if I'll be able to figure out a way to fit the upcoming mosque in too.

I second that - more action, less idling ;)

But it's just knights for me - my army is a small and elite force - all heavy armour .

Getting more bang for my limited bucks :D
