What is Wrong with This Tiger? (1 Viewer)

Whats Wrong with this Tiger??? ..... Not a thing.....The figures now look in correct scale to the AFV. This has been discussed already....."oversized 1:30th figures" which are in reality (1:28th)... need oversized 1:30th AFV's.^&grin

Do you think the Jagdpanther and Panther go better with their older smaller Tigers

Been a couple years since I got rid of my older Tiger. My impression was the Panther looked too big next to the Tiger but its been so long I couldn't say for sure.

I still struggle with the why's a new Tiger was needed at a much larger size...I have attached compare pics of the latest Sherman next to the old Wittman Tiger with a K/C figure next to. Really seems like they already fit together fine. I love CS new desert Tiger but would have bought at the original scale, not the oversized one..Just wondering, that's all.....Michael

The Wittmann Tiger 007 blends well with Collectors Showcase figures and the majority of their AFV's including the Panther, Panzer IV, and King Tiger. It is a shame that the Jagdpanther is somewhat undersized compared to the other AFV's but imo it is one of the best models currently available in this hobby and well worth getting despite it being a bit smaller.

Now, now Rob and Wayne, be nice you'll ruffle feathers around here including mine when you post links (or pic's) like that....:wink2::rolleyes2:^&grin

Tom

Sorry Tom, was just kidding around:wink2:

The JP vs. Panther also caught my attention & caused me to pull out my Bradford references. I have all the common AFV's from the Bradford books resized to 1/48 on clear acetates so I can superimpose, & when I did so, the JP rear deck comes out significantly lower than the Panther rear deck. That's a bit strange, & I can't help but to wonder if it's an industry wide error in the scale model world. If anyone has the Jentz/Doyle Panzertracts publications on the Panther & JP, it would be worth checking out as those would be the most accurate references. Is the JP really smaller than the Panther?

Good question, maybe the engine deck of the actual JP was a bit lower than the Panther, would be good news if that was correct. I do have the Honour Bound Bergepanther and it is very very close in size to the TSC Jagdpanther if that is any help.

I know there were several collectors complaining about the Panzer IV and the Wittman Tiger being oversized when they were released which turned me off buying them for some time. I'm so pleased I took a risk and purchased these excellent models and find them close enough in relative size for me, and I can be a tad anal about scale, or so I've been told :wink2:

If size is the ultimate concern, you can't beat the 1/35 scale models by Tamiya and Dragon. For some reason, the toy industry is not a stickler for precise proportion. The dimensions of these old tanks are available. It should be a simple mathematical formula to create it exactly, right? However, the toy soldier folks size them to their figures. People come in different shapes and sizes, but these tanks do not. Jürgen

I'm going to say the engine deck is the same.

I think that some might misunderstand. The compare is of the latest CS Sherman with the older CS Wttman. My feelings is that the original Wittman seemed good enough in size and scale to everything being made by CS ( except maybe the Panzer 4 )and was already correct for the figures. Just wanted to clarfy as to the models and not to beat what might be a dead horse of a discussion..Michael

To think, that Jagd was in pristine condition until the day Rob turned up for work at the IWM, as drunk as a baboon, after having picked up his welding gear from the repair shop. Such a waste....

They are about to take it away for preservation work and won't let me play on it anymore mate!:redface2::wink2:

I know there were scale drawing errors that prompted Jentz/Doyle to undertake the Panzertracts remeasuring series (Doyle is an engineer btw). Looking at Frank's pics below, I bet there are bogus JP plans circulating the industry that were at least in part the inspiration for Panzertracts.

This isn't well publicized, but the central focus behind Panzertracts is remeasurement. The pubs come out so slow because the authors actually travel to remeasure a specimen.

I agree and have always understood they were the same height as the JP was based on the Panther chassis and it surprised me that Blowtorch had some tech style drawings that suggested otherwise.

I never thought of asking Mr. Doyle which plans he found to be in error which led to the idea of making the Panzertracts series, but some of his disciples hang out over at Missing Lynx in the Axis forum. You could post a question about this over there & will likely get a good answer
