I know a few things are in the works but I'm wondering what we can expect for 2013?

Well, it`s not unnoticed anymore...!!{sm4}{sm4}{sm4} I`d love to see Conte re-releasing their splendid WWII buildings (church, bunker, etc)

WWII would be welcome. Obviously something new would be great but releasing some of the past buildings, anything!

They are suppose to be redoing some of their older figures but haven't heard any more about it.

I was one of Conte's greatest fans and collected all of their ACW; Alamo and FIW sets but bitter disappointment with their spasmodic release programme certainly kicked the enthusiasm for collecting their figures right out of me.

Always plenty of promises very little delivery. Darn shame as at one time imo they released the best action posed figures on the market

Ah, Conte, my first metal love:), I would love to see Conte re do the WWII Boss sets from the D-Day landing series, I missed out on them and always thought they were a excellent series, I also really enjoyed the plastic WWII range as well, some of the best out there still today in my opinion, not sure why Conte left the WWII scene as it seemed to have a nice following of collectors when they were releasing them?? oh well, Conte loss is another company's gain...Sammy

Just a day ago Larso and I were standing in front of a cabinet of Conte figures and I made the same observation about the qulaity of the action poses.

I am anxiously awaitng more Roman/Barbarians from his Winter Games series and also the begining of his French Foreign Legion figures...

My first love also.had all their Troiani sets plus other ACW,FIW,Vikings Romans,Viking ship.Thought their animation was better than anybody's but I agree with Reb that it takes way too long for them to release a range.Their Zulu and British in India ranges are excellent also.Could dominate the market if they really put their minds to it.

This thread got me looking at my conte ACW sets. What happened ? I remember when they first hit the market, they were fantastic figures. I bought them all. I really wish they could get their act together.

It has really perplexed me. I actually give Conte a lot of the credit in getting the hobby to where it is today. The movie tie-ins, huge playsets with the accesories, the great battle poses - in both plastic and metal got a lot of people taking notice and I think take the leap into collecting. The Spartans were the plastic highpoint and then nothing. I know they cost a mint but I guess he over-reached. It was a shame as I really wanted multi-pose Romans. As for regaining his position, I think that'd be hard. There's so much product about, from so many makers that the market seems saturated. Conte's lack of consistent releases has left a lot of people wary about starting on a range. With his best stuff - Viking ships, D-day sets etc he could come back yet. But maybe after 15 years or so, his passion has dimmed?

Interesting that the issues identified in this thread are not about the quality of the product - it is a discussion of release times and reliability. It is interesting that the quality, as least for this small sample of collectors, seems to be a given.

Agreed 100%; Richard made a huge splash in the toy soldier world when he came onto the scene in 1997 (?), it was the first Chicago show I attended as a dealer, his figures and playsets were just awesome.

He came along at the perfect time as plastic was very popular at the time and matte finished metal was just starting to take off.

I recently came into a huge toy soldier collection, within it are D-Day sets 1-7, Alamo sets 1-7 and one of the ACW sets as well as countless WWII, Alamo and Norman/Viking figures in plastic. As I sorted out the items, it really hit me how well done they all were, the church/priory is an iconic piece, perhaps the best scenic pieces ever made in foam.

The hobby owes him a debt of gratitude for all the excitement he generated and all the collectors he brought into the hobby in the late 1990's, early part of this century...........
