I voted for the French Foreign Legion, however, I would also love to see line a devoted to the Crimean War.

How about some FFL issued as part of the elite soldiers line, just to test the water.

The battle of Camerone merit the same treatment that rorke's drift, i think.:redface2:

As something a little different I would like to see the "Conquest of the Desert" campaign against indians in Argentina in the 1870's.

It was a little while since I posted this but thought it was interesting inasmuch that the two most popular suggestions (at the time of bringing this back to the top) are now being produced elsewhere.

I would like to see NWF in matt and the Crimean War in either gloss or matt, I know they are being produced elsewhere, but still hoping

As I mentioned earlier, I think this is an interesting poll, but does not scratch the surface of what could be made or revisited. My general feeling is that these polls reflect the desire to see a topic in the near future rather than a longer view.

I think the brand has been around long enough to consider that many of these subjects will appear in some capacity in the future. These could be anything from a single representative figure within a larger offering, or completely new series. Other manufactures visiting some of these subjects before W. Britain usually will not impact a future development if the subject is strong.

The biggest concern at the development end is to fall in love with your own ideas to the point that you ignore what the market desires or might be willing to collect.
I personally like some periods and subjects that probably would not perform well in the larger market so these topics usually appear pretty low on the list if at all. I am pretty sure that Richard might say the same thing.

With that said, I know that areas that are well covered by others such as World War II, the French and Indian War, the Plains War in North America and other conflicts will eventually be covered by Britain's. In some cases these may be in depth like the ACW and AZW ranges.

Please continue to make requests and create polls as we all look at these with great interest. In some cases they can become a deciding factor in planning the next development, and they are usually a good indicator of the current trends.

The new catalog is almost wrapped up and should have some pleasant surprises for some of you, but also remember that there will be additional releases later in the year covering even more subjects.

Happy New Year all,
Ken Osen

I think this post brings up some interesting points 1) next release vs longer term release potential 2) a single figure vs an indepth line and 3) commercial viability does not require "first mover advantage"

As I have written in the past, I think commercial success depends on a few factors 1) movie based themes seem to have the highest potential of success and 2) either an anglo or american connection as they are britains two home markets and 3) first mover advantage is helpful

Personally I would like to see foreign legion, crusades and/or market garden for an indepth line that you collect over time. I think they all offer indepth potential for interesting tactical accessories and figures. The anglo-afgan wars and spanish civil war would be interesting but likely too obscure for commerical success.

I think geographic breakdown of the poll results would yield intersting results... I think many would be skewed to either americans or brits for some of the selections. The one that would be most successful would have universal appeal.

This poll was created in 2011 so it's a bit out of date and it had a very British bias to it I admit but it was the American range and perennial favourites the FFL that won the day back then and still do now.

There just seems to be that something that resonates when a perceived superior force encounters an underestimated foe, hence my moniker I guess!

I am going to make a play for a glossy 1919 London Victory Parade.

I am a bit concerned that our toy soldier manufacturers might be bereft of ideas with the approach of the centenary of WW1. They are probably not helped by a customer base too shy to offer advice, so here is one from left field (I think that is a baseball analogy, but what happens in left field that is weird?)

How about some war correspondents touring the battlefields? Sir Philip Gibbs, perhaps the most widely read of them, is seated in right back seat. He was a good man who came to understand his role as one that crossed the line between reporting and propaganda, although he never quite managed to live down his report on July 1 1916 that noted 'On balance, a good day for England'.

Yes, Yes now I would want something like that, please some of you glossy manufactures who make some very, very good products please give the option of a matt finish as well! I am sure your sales will increase if you do.
Wayne.

An interesting thought. I have just starting looking at glossies and have some on order. I have no knowledge of how the companies work and I am sure things are more complicated than they look from the outside, but to have a glossy soldier or vehicle, is the gloss an additional step to painting ie the last step? If so, nothing has to be done to have it matte, so is it then possible to have it as a special order? Is there such a divide between matte and gloss manufacturers that they do not wish to damage their 'brand'?

Traditionaly the old gloss figures were painted with gloss paint but I think most makers now use matt and then paint a gloss laquer over the top, I no we do.
I think though that when people are talking about matt figures they generaly expect more detail to be painted not just a matt finish. For example with a gloss figure the creases on cloths will be caught by the natural light, but with matt most of the shadows will have to be painted on.
