What plastics I should make?

My father and I are planning on starting a toy soldier business and I wanted to know what soldiers people would like.
 
Are these 1/32 scale? If so, how about adding the following to your poll.
1. Korean War- U.S, Chinese, North Koreans. These are begging to be made.
2. WW2 U.S. Combat engineers, using flamethrowers, satchelcharges, ect.
3. U.S. Marines and Japanese. Always need more of these.
4. WW2 U.S. Paratrooper and British Paratrooper weapons teams and antitank teams.
5. German Weapon teams and Stormpioneers with flamethrowers ect.

voted for WW2-although what I'd buy would be ECW-suspect that exploring the minor countries niche with figures integratable with K&C,Conte et.al. may prove out the richest vein.And I say this despite not collecting WW2 nor Crusaders which would have placed 2cnd.Best of Luck with your new venture:),o.
 
I voted for Napoleonic british there is a serious lack of them on the Market :confused:
 
Modernreb, as a long time plastic collector I would like to make one suggestion.
Any WW2 sets or Civil War sets, please make in the same scale as Conte & TSSD.
European makers usually label a figures size as 1-32 but they are more in the 1-35th range.
Just my humble opinion but Conte & TSSD have currently set the bar on quality plastic and for me to buy the figures would have to be compatable with them.

Will you be dealing in them or making NEW ones?

Union army in correct fatigue blouses, gear worn on the the correct sides. ie cartridge boxes on the right, canteens and haversack on the left. Rifles at correct positions with some marching at "shoulder arms" or "shoulder shift" as that's how masses of men got to the battles. As few "characters" as possible.

TSSD has great figures but weak on Union infantry uniform authenticity. (great for rebs!) Conte are pretty good BUT the rifles are literally weak. A-I-P only has Frock coated Union and Zouaves. (nice though)


..or generic French infantry from 1850-1914 to "play" Crimea, Mexico, Franco-Prussian, or early WWI. Dark BLUE plastic.
 
For WW2 - both Conte and TSSD tend to show American infantry (and some Germans too) running and leaping in combat with full field packs. Not every GI wore the full field pack into action.

More WW2 - more fellows who are cannoneers or vehicle crewmen. We have some nice guns but need more German and American gun crews.

We could also use some US paratroopers like Conte's but upgraded to the construction and detail foundon the newer GI infantry.

British seem to be under represented in "large 54mm" size

I'm not a big German fan, but I do admire the Waffen SS camoflage tunics and helmet covers - only a few Conte figures have these - more wouldn't be bad.

Guys who are not necessarily leaping and dashing about. More crouching, prone, "hunkered down" poses would be nice.

More "TSSD sized" ACW cavalry to expand on selection. Perhaps some of these figures could also be used for early US Cavalry in the West (or vice versa). Some "conte compatible" Civil War infantry not in furious combat would be nice.

And, of course, as a figure converter/modifier a selection of hands in various poses in resin, plastic or metal, scaled to Conte and TSSD, would be VERY appreciated!

Can you make them K&C size? Crusaders in plastic that size would be great. I like the K&C size. A little easier to paint How soon do you anticipate production? Will it be a hard plastic or soft like replicants? I have a hard time with the soft stuff. It does not seem to set well.

This poll really needs more options. To me, any thing that can be done well in that medium should be made in plastic. At this point, I think the new Conte Spartans, for the sharpness and accuracy of their detail as much as their movable limbs, have set the bar. I would also agree with KV that the scale should be at the K&C Nap standard, which seems to go with Britains and Conte generally.
 
I think that plastic soldiers should be made out of plastic. :D:D

Talking about size Plastics are all over the place.
TSSD are a big 60mm then there are figures like ACTA that are small :confused:.
I realy like the size of the Blackcat russians they still fit in with the metals like Britains but at the same time they also go well with Napoleonics like Airfix.
The Conte Spartans have set a new bar thats for sure.
but any good solid cast plastic is still fine by me :cool::D

Size is important to me. A lot of European plastics are way tooooooo skinny.
Not all of them so please do not start giving examples that do not fit my statement. I know I have some just can not remember the name. Out of business anyway. I like the plastic that TSSD is using. It holds paint pretty good Not like AIP.

Blackcat are awesome! Great detail! TSSD are however still smaller than K&C. A great in between figure to help mix different manufacturers.

best of British luck with your venture. If you want to make money though you will of course have to aim your figures at the greatest market, not just for the dedicated enthusiastic collectors like most of us guys on this forum who are very knowledgeable and spot mistakes straight away.
New collectors and figure painters should also be looked at as there are many around at the moment who are re-visiting this hobby for the first time since their youth/childhood.

There are figures underscale such as ACTA which I find very irritating but then again they do sell in their 100,000's (or more) all over the world, so they must appeal to the majority of average ability hobbyists and newcomers.
The early Airfix 1/32nd sets were good as they were robust rounded figures (German Inf, British Commandos, British Infantry Support Group and Russians) then the later figures got smaller in stature.

Vamp have to agree on TSSD i like the plastic you don't even have to prime them :cool:
 
oops sliped up :D:)..... but on the flip side i would have to give IMEX the gong for worst plastic..
if you don't prime them ya in a world of hurt :eek::p
 
Although it is quite a cool idea to make soldiers from the minor countires of WWII I think it would be more popular if you were to just make Soviets. Soviet soldiers are far too underrepresented in the Toy soldier business considering they did the majority of the fighting. And I would recommend that you make them compatible with Conte soldiers as they seem to be an ideal size for most collectors (correct me if I am wrong). That's my 2 cents!
