Hey dudes:

Everyone who knows me, knows that I'm a little bit "off" key. Be that as it may, I have recently decided to take a work position in Christchurch New Zealand. As I am an engineer/construction guy I will be giving my best effort in an attempt to rebuild Christchurch from their recent seismic events a year ago. Other then the fact that its like throwing a hand grenade on your personal life, it should be pretty freaking cool. I told KGB that I was not going to pack any clothes and try and fit my entire collection in two suit cases. Pretty sure thats not going to work out and pretty sure I wont be able to buy clothes there as I am a fat American. So what do I take collection wise? I've got a few Aeroart Samurai dudes that would be pretty easy to go over there and considering the detail on them, to me, they look freaking awesome. The majority of the rest of collection includes pieces from the following lines:

K&C:
Desert - EA & AK
WWI - Germans and French and Turks
FOB - have a pretty large Dunkirk dio
Eastern Front - have a decent size dio of Russians and Germans duking it out(WW2)
Alamo
US armor collection(WW2)
Crusades
RAF dio
FJ's
LAH - kreigsmarines on parade along with german grey vehicles
French Foreign Legion(WW2)

I do also have some JJ Sudan and a small group of Beau Geste French Foreign Legion

Going to need to the forums advice as to be honest, I can't really decide.

I would not take any. if the position is not permanent then I would store them or, similar and, would buy when I was out their and then bring them home

Agree with you entirely, Mitch, take advantage to buy some figures you don't see every day at home, expand your horizons and look at some new stuff. Trooper
 
On the other hand, take a little bit of the US with you. Some of your Alamo or a few pieces of US armor, to remind you of home. -- Al

Carefully put everything you have in storage. All of it.

Fly over to NZ and find a nice place to live for a while.

Take none of them. Pack each range like you were going to ship it. Then once settled, decide if you want to ship any ranges over or not. Once you are over there, you will probably be so busy with work and leisure activities like badminton, lawn bowling and afternoon tea, you won't have time for toy soldiers. ^&grin

You will then only be a few hours travelling time across that little ditch that seperates the Kiwis from the Great Land of OZ. Expect to see you and the KGB at the K&C Dinner in Brisbane in June.
I will make sure Brett seats you with Simmo and Oz who will entertain you all night.^&grin
Regarding your collection, just ship the EA, AK and MK to me Downunder. I will look after them with tender loving care. There is of course a big chance cobber that you won't get them back.:smile2:

Mate don't take anything to Christchurch they are still rockn' and rolln' all the time, your collection is likely to end up on the floor smashed to a million little bits. They don't call the place the shacky isles for nothing. :rolleyes2::wink2:{sm4}.

Interesting subject as I'm moving to Hawaii. I had pretty much decided selling my whole K&C collection was the best decision. This would also put me in an ideal financial position for the move. I have already sold my car (hotrod) that I posted here on the forum (which was "extremely" painful) This transistion to move to an island is requiring sacrifices:( which I do believe will be justified later on. I had found a buyer for my K&C collection who led me on for 3 months with nothing more than "I'm wiring you the money tomorrow", or "my basement flooded", or "I had surgery", which all ended up with what I think was more likely the real truth all along..."I have no where to store them until the guy is finished building my display cabinets", though it does remain just another excuse! I'm not sure if anyone can relate to the pain of 3 months of emails which makes you say, o.k I'm selling my collection, too o.k I'm not selling my collection..nevertheless the potential buyer became way to flakey, with way to many excuses! I have reverted back to thinking that keeping them may be doable and less painful. I had thought if they did sell I could always re-build another collection (doubtfully just the same of course) This hobby is for sure something that can't be given up forever once the addiction takes hold...it's burned inside forever! So as you mention what to take? what to take?...for me I'm still somewhat confused and not fully sold on keeping, or selling? I'm sure you will figure out what to do with yours with our help, or not!

Put them all in storage and buy new stuff whilst you're out there....or just take some RAF, they're so cool you can't leave them behind! :wink2:

Bearing in mind the situation there I would not take too much. However I agree with Al about taking US items such as Alamo etc as they can be a conversation point when mixing with Kiwis and others.

well there you have it. has any of this helped your decision? not taking any and changing to FL!!! (suppose you would get more of them in a suitcase!!LOL) to taking them as conversation pieces with the natives. I bet your more confused now than you were tarvel light is still my thought. the more you haul stuff around the more costly and, liklihood of breakages

very best of luck on your new life endeavour. I wish you and KGB all the very best. IMO Toy soldiers should be the near bottom of the list in thinking of what to do over there- NZ is such a beautiful country with so much to do I wouldnt waste one single second messing around with TS. Get out, walk, hike, run, ski, surf, all the wonderful things they do there and live life to its fullest. This hobby is rather dull and doesn't really fit into a vibrant, wild country like that. It's more suited to the American sedentary lifestyle. {sm4}{sm4}

Again, great life choice and one you will not forget. Rock it to the max!!

I agree with the above and add - make sure you jump the ditch to OZ when you are there and you will find all of the above but more and better. :wink2:
