Yo Troopers, just a small teaser seeing a lot of debate going on about pricing etc for today's models. Can any one guess what price a Stadden artist was paid for painting up these two large 90mm models between 1991-1995 which say is only 15 years back, price for the single model and a price for the double model. Don't forget these guys were some of the best artist around back then. Will reveal the price in a few days. Just want to see how good you are;) and who are the experts:rolleyes:.

Bernard,

sorry I can't guess as I don;t know how much a popund was worth in 'the olden days'.

I'd paint them for FREE !!!!

All you need is to buy me a ticket to Ireland and give me accomodation for the week.... and a few pints of Guinness every night :)

Don't know what the Stadden painters were paid in 1991, but when I started in 1970 as a painter for Tradition, or Norman Newton's as it was then, I was paid 7/6d (371/2p) for a collector's standard 54mm foot figure. That was the basic unit , everything else was in multiples of that unit. A mounted figure was 3 units, a mounted standard bearer or kettledrummer 4 units, a foot 90mm was also 4 units, but to the best of my recollection there were no mounted 90mm at that time. The prices might have gone up a little since then.

two chickens and a flagon of ale!!!!

Absolutely no idea but, would not be a great deal about £20
Mitch

lol what a orrible lot you are, WHAT ARE YOU SOLDIER:(. John wants a ticket over no problem, but a FEW pints of Guinness is over the top, do you know how much a pint is in Ireland lol. My mate trooper has had a flash back to the good old days £ Shillings and pence, dont know if I can go back that far:rolleyes:. Mitch is even further back two chickens and a Flagon of ale. Suppose the next excuse for a soldier answer will be 4 Groats and three farthings:D. Surprised the Corporal of Horse hasn't come in here. Can feel some stable duties getting dished out again:D.
Bernard.

I have no idea back then I was hand to mouth trying to sell my own range. I couldn't afford to pay out painters, I did it all myself.(not much has changed):D I got payed more for stable duties!

Martin

Yo Troopers, Mitch got the closest, the single Mounted rate was £16.00 and the double Mounted figure was £25.00, everyone gets two weeks Stable duties:( except Corporal of Horse Tabony he enjoys it:D.

I have no idea what the painters rate was. I just got a bunch of Staddens, and two of them were signed B. Stadden. Darn, that was a find. At any rate I imagine Betty got a big hug.

I do for the love of painting not money :)

Of course the result of loving to paint, it emassing a collection, but nowdays, I seem to be painting more for others that for myself.

But of course I have to buy the paint and brushes, but quite ofter the good old barter system works well with me. It could be painted figures or castings and (of course) I do accept cash, cheque, PayPal, gold bars, overseas airline tickets, fast cars...... Now I am being silly :) :)

Yo Trooper, a bunch is something special, but to find two signed by the Stadden family is a real bonus. Betty Chas wife, Andy son, Denise daughter, were all superb artist what a talented family they are, mind you some great artist at the Twickenham factory, but don't think there was as much pressure on the home painters as the Twicks factory who had to get them out that bit quicker to earn their wages. A point on why the home painters always did their bases coloured, apparently Chas wanted all his models painted that way usually the same as the facing colours, but only being a Director was overruled, due to cost and and time taken, so all the Studio bases were painted black. Would be nice to see some photos of your stunning collection.
Bernard.
