I can trace my progress up until now with some clarity. Can anyone else and what was your journey?

Mine was,

1) Airfix 1:72 figures (not kits) (Collected all conflicts)
2) Britains Deetail (Collected all)
3) Esci 1:72 figures (Zulu War)

Long, long sabatical - booze, birds and bands.

4) Essex Miniatures 25mm (Sudan Campaign)
5) Black Tree Designs 28mm (Zulu War)
6) Renegade Miniatures 28mm (WW1)
7) Little Legion (Zulu War)
8) William Britains (Zulu War, WW1)

And it was WB that opened up this whole new world to me in 2008. Since then I've dabbled with most of the 'big boys' and I suspect most of my toy soldier money now goes to both JJD and K&C.

Who knows where the journey will take us to next.

If I can remember correctly

1. Marx, airfix

2. Conte Platics

3. Conte metal

4. forces of valor

5. K&C

6. First Legion

7. WWII dioramas built by TM Terrain, with Build-a- Rama and J.G.Minatures accessories.

My journey started like many others on this forum...As a kid grew up with the Marx Playsets...WW2 German & US , as well as US Cavalry & Indians...Then got into Swoppits US Cavalry & Indians...Followed by Britians Deetail WW2...
Got into modeling 1/35 Tamiya...Then Long Pause as teenage years & Twenties brought the world of booze & women to light !
In my mid twenties i took 1/35 scale modeling back up again...In that i stumbled across K&C's early AK line...
I bought a couple sets of Conte & Britains WW2...Then also enjoyed picking up 21st Century Toy/Forces of Valor AFV's...
I mostly just collect K&C , but if something interests me i am open minded about buying it...

Airfix 1/32nd and 1/72nd figures and AFV's, action man, Britain's deetail followed by Tamiya, 1/35th scale models 1/350th ships, 1/6th motorcycles and then Britain's and conte WWII ranges. I then dabbled with 1/6th Dragon and DID figures and AFV's some smaller makers of LAH then heavily with K&C and CS.

These have and still do overlap with each other

MyToy Soldier Journey started at age 12 with Marx, Barclay, Knights by John Hill,and SAE. That was followed by a break for High School, University, Partying, Militaryservice, and 12 years working overseas (mostly in Europe & Middle East).Interest started up again during my assignment in London, where I got aninterest in assembly and painting Rose Miniatures. Upon my return to the Statesin 1980's and during the early days of eBay, I started collecting boxed sets of30mm Flats (Napoleonic period) made by various German manufacturers and 15mmNapoleonic period war gaming sets. Then during Britains Centenary (1993)forward, I went full tilt into early Britains, plus adding model soldiers byCharles Stadden, Ed Suren, and LaBayen. When the 21st Century started, my focuswiden to Britains Napoleonic , American Civil War, Sudan, & WWII series, and Britains Artillerypieces. During this period my wife collected Britains WWI series, farm, circus, and zoopieces; and also Elastolin African animals. Since I am a history buff, I also collected all of Conte's Greek Sparta/Persianseries, and Roman Period sets. I havenow as a retiree, slowed down my acquisitions to Britains, Collectors Showcase,and certain K&C sets. I am sure I missed some manufacturers that I have collected and now in storage or on display; which I apologize. I am also now,slowly starting to divest myself of some of my collection, to make room for newcreations. Great hobby!!{sm4}

Neil, for years I've thought of getting my Airfix 1/32 down from the loft and painting them, but not sure if I should or not!

They were great weren't they, so many excellent sets . Some of the best figures were the officers, like the 8TH Army, US Inf and Australian versions.

And don't get me started on Commando Comics.....still hundreds up in loft too!

Those were happy days mate!:smile2:

Your right there Rob loved the Battle and Warlord comic

When I was child in the second half of the 70ies I mostly had and loved: plastic " Atlantic"(italian company closed in 1984) 25mm ( Us, brits, german infantry, japanese, afrika korps, italian bersaglieri). I really loved the sculpts, and still love them today( I wonder if I can find them in the cellar {sm2})

Commando Comics were sold in the NAAFI and were known as "training manuals":)

As a kid, in the 60's and early 70's, I played with Timpo Swoppets, Aifix 1/32 and Airfix 1/72.
Then there were no Toy Soldiers for a very long time until around 2001, when I got into collecting.
The collection now includes a variety of styles and mfrs., no particular favorite.

Ok -

1/72 scale tanks & planes, badly glued, often with my fingerprints glugging up the windows etc

Hong Kong rip-offs of Airfix 1/32 and assorted other cheap 1/32 plastic

Timpo swoppet Vikings & Crusaders

Interlude

The rest of the Timpo Vikings

A long list of reissued Marx and others as I caught up on what I'd missed out on.

The excellent Conte plastics. Highpoint being my Stamford Bridge playset

TSSD! With a smattering of other new makers coming in too.

About 6 years ago, a few K & C Crusaders

About 3 years ago the Jenkins Jacobites and various Redcoats, Conte 24th Foot & Zulus AND K & C Napoleonics! Most still ongoing.

CS Romans & Celts and back to the K & C Crusaders. Very keen on all new offerings with these.

Next - more TSSD plastics. Some Barzo Indians wanted too. Some more CTS tanks as well. Probably their recent German figures too.

Wishes - a Viking range I can get into on the ground floor. Ideally in 2014/15 sometime

In around 10 I played Airfix HO/00 and then 1/32nd figures. Still love the box art and every figures.

Later Atlantic and ESCI figures only because in Hong Kong at that time there were no other small scale figures available.

Then building and painting Historex figures.

In late 1999 starting buying Britains, Tommy Atkins and K&C.
