Hey Guys,
You used to find my TV quite often tuned to the History Channel. Seems they've totally changed there programming direction, it's basically unwatchable anymore. My wife used to call it the Hitler Channel because of the abundance of WWII related programs, can't remeber the last time I saw a WWII program??? What Gives???
Ray:(:(:(

I noticed the History channel does more modern marvels:mad: like the history of glue. However I get the military channel which is probably owned by the history channel and they show the old wwll and newer shows. Leadmen

Isn't the History Channel owned by A&E? And don't they also own the Military Channel? Our local cable companies offer The History Channel as part of the basic tier of cable channels, but the Military Channel is bundled with one of the premium packages. It wouldn't surprise me if some marketing or programming executives hit on the idea of moving content from packages that don't generate as much revenue, to ones that do.

There's been a definite trend in broadening content, among a couple of cable networks. So for example, the Cartoon Channel shows live-action movies. Sci-Fi shows professional wrestling (I'm not making this up!) and also animation (Japanese anime movies Monday nights). History Channel shows stuff that we would expect to find on the Sci-Fi channel (UFOs, cryptozoology).

And "Law and Order" is on practically everywhere, during any hour of the day.

Cable news channels are basically live tabloids, with shrill, shouting columnists, lots of sensationalism and no real depth (though I have no problem seeing a Courtney Friel or Robin Meade reading the news--rowr!)

Really makes me want to cancel cable altogether and just buy DVDs.

I think the military channel is owned by the discovery channel and I agree about the history channel.

I'm with you 100% on this one Brad.:(

Probably gone the same way as the Discovery channel. Used to have great shows now every time I turn it on it's that **** Mythbuster series !!!

I think the programing has gone downhill on the HC.* It seems that the only shows on the HC now are Tougher In Alaska, Axmen and Ice Road Truckers.I prefer the Military Channel now, although I have to pay extra for it.At least the Histroy Channel has been showing a series of programs on the Zulu War. The History International Channel is pretty good channel.

We now have Dish Network...........200+ channels of nothing:eek:

Oh wife did get pissed.............

Half hour to go up and down the selection.....4 channels of Hogans Heros

Did I mention wife got pissed.........

Maybe 15 cartoon channels, 8 different ESPN's..........

Did I mention wife has gotten mad maybe 1 other time in 38 years:eek:

We can tape shows now.......not sure how it works......have 28 tapings of

Diners Drive-Inns & Dives:confused: & Law and Order C.I.

Why is wife mad you ask?

Cable guys asked me if they could put dish on roof (because of the trees)

Correct answer "Certainly Not"......my answer........"Sure I Guess So"

Notice tech is smiling, does he think its Candid Cameria?

More like additional divorce information:eek::eek:

I tried the dish setup late last year but there were way to many repeats of mostly rubbish programs. I ended up canceling the service and have gone back to free to air TV and DVD's.

I'm with you guys - The History Channel has gone into the dumper! Some corporate yo-yo is chasing ratings with this "reality" stuff and has RUINED a fun channel. I enjoyed Ax Men, but have no use for the Alaska and Ice Road series. I cannot bring myself to watch another "monster" or UFO episode. Unfortunately our level of Dish Network doesn't provide us the Military Channel. I've gone from having The History Channel on all the time that I am in my hobby room to running between Food Network and Sirius Sat. Radio 60's music channel (6006 on my Dish). Sci Fi still have some good stuff - but they get off on their Ghost Hunter stuff and I still can't figure out why the wrestling is on Tuesday nights!

Still there seem to be a few bright spots - Monk is still a quality TV show, Battlestar Galactica is GREAT, Eureka is wonderful (a "must see" for my wife and I every week), Pushing Daisies will be back on ABC this fall. I should catch up on Mad Men as I've heard good things about it. All of these represent somebody actually doing some creative thinking and writing, something that doesn't feature in the current craze of "reality" shows.

End of rant.

I almost never watch the History Channel anymore. Usually just for a laugh to see how ridiculous it has become - kind of a mirror for a society in intellectual decline. Who needs history when we have this to worry about:

MEGA HOG
Do wild hogs in the United States grow to monstrous sizes? Many think so. In Georgia an 1100 pound hog was shot and killed and in Texas beast almost as large have been reported. But are these creatures raised and fattened up in a pen, or are they wild hogs, naturally more aggressive, that have somehow reached gigantic proportions? A MonsterQuest examination meets victims of vicious wild boar attacks, looks at the existing evidence and teams up with a hog hunters, researchers and trackers to find a giant.

OHIO GRASSMAN
Just miles from the industrial cities of Ohio, there is a bogeyman that has terrified local children for over a century. According to stories and sightings, the Grassman is similar to a Bigfoot, but builds strange nests and has been known to attack. Can science help explain this creature? Is a primate skull, a strange print and a new video the first direct proof behind the legendary Grassman? MonsterQuest sifts through the existing evidence and takes to the skies in a search for what is stalking Ohio.

BONELESS HORROR
Throughout history there have been sightings of a massive Octopus big enough to attack and sink boats. Could such a creature really exist? MonsterQuest divers probe the depths of the North Pacific where the world's largest known species of octopus lives. The investigation will use special infrared cameras to probe octopus lairs and hunt in the darkness of night when this predator of the sea may be more active.

@combat--Right, that's that cryptozoology series that they ran. Interesting stuff, but not history. It should be on Sci-Fi, or maybe Discovery.

@britfarmer--What's wrong with "Mythbusters" (except that Jamie is so annoying that if you met him in person, you'd probably want to bust him right in the nose)? Some of their tests are interesting. And Kari's a babe!

@binder001-"Monk's" getting better again, but in the past two seasons, I think the quality of the show really dropped. The Captain and Disher went from being hard-boiled, efficient professionals to buffoons, and many episodes became strings of gags highlighting Monk's OCD. And they went from not revealing the villain to the audience until late in the episode, to showing him right at the start. But the latest episode with David Straithairn as a murderous doctor was pretty well-written.

Yep-DVDs are the way to go. Or read a book, TV rots your brain, anyway.

Prost!

Right On, Brad.

I like to get my kids off the Disney Channel and other Zoey101 decadence and have them look up info on the Web about Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs and Bear Grylls. They learned who the guys/gals are and their backgrounds, and also that they are just family people. Jamie "SF" Hyneman's wife of 20yrs is a science teacher. Ordinary folks doing inordinary things. Too bad my son switches over to Ebay to look at the ATVs for sale. Mike

Not that I have a problem with Mythbusters as such I have watched some of their shows but it's seems that is on 24/7 I would just like to see other programs added.

Have too agree. HC is 90% boring anynore. I enjoy Axmen { my neck of the woods} from time to time, the Monster hunting is kinda fun{ I still think there are plenty of strange critters we know zero about} Modern marvels once in a while, but overall It's boring.
THE HISTORY OF DIRT
I only watch the tube for an hour or so before I go to sleep, mostly surfing to find something decent to watch.Sometimes suprised but mostly , just junk.

The problem with HC,Discovery channel ,TLC and others is that they play the shows to death.I like Deadliest Catch and it is alright to repeat and episode for people who missed the original airing but they have 10-12 hour marathons over and over.

Me too, canceled mine a few years ago - we have so many interruptions for adverts in the programme I forget what I am watching - or change channels to something else - or just don't watch - this is currently the default position.

The only thing I really miss is the football - soccer. So now I have to go to the pub to watch...........LOL at comments about 30 mins to change channel - so true - give up!

Most of the better newer stuff has been put on the military channels and the pentagon also, still some reruns.

our brains are being invaded by crap! turn off the tv and read some good history books... find the right dvd's while they are still around.

The History Prophet,
Paulo
