What's In A Name (2 Viewers)

Union Jack Jackson was in "Warlord". (He had a british flag on his helmet to distinguish him from the the US troops)

I used to get that and "Victor" too. good comics but they didn't push the boundaries like "Battle".

Y'know i really think you should change your forum name to "Union jack Jackson" how cool would that be?

Union Jack Jackson! How cool would that be!!:)

I have been meaning to ask why is Capitol spelt with an "o" not an "a". When they say Capitol Hill on the news what exactly are they referring to? Is it the US Congress. And finally what is the difference between Congress and the Senate. Is it like the House of Commons and House of Lords.

CAPITOL - is the building :)

CAPITAL - is an idea "Capital Idea" ... is a letter "I said NO with a Capital N!" ... is a good day at the stock market "Made some Capital Today " :p

Capitol Hill is the area of the District of Columbia (DC) where the Capitol and Member offices of the House of Representatives & Senate are located - which are on an actual hill. Also the area called "Capitol Hill" is the neighborhood surrounding the US Capitol Grounds within Washington, DC.

I live "on Capitol Hill" my townhouse is ten blocks from the Capitol. It is the most historic place to live inside Washington. Lots of old homes.

Yes - we modeled parts of our government from our British friends (denote - I used the word "Friends" - not anti-british ;) ) Our HOUSE and SENATE is similar to the House of Commons and House of Lords - although our system of Government we elect everyone. Power is divided even between the two bodies of Congress and creates a "checks & balance" system of the making of the laws. Parliament is more one sided in Britain in their law making.

Hope that helps,

Ron

If I may add, on "capital" and "capitol"...

They both come, ultimately, from the Latin root for "head", "caput-". But "capitol", with an "o", derives directly from the name of one of the seven hills of Rome, the Capitoline. There was a temple dedicated to Jupiter on the Capitoline Hill. "Capital" derives from the genitive (ie, possessive) form of "caput-", "capitalis". So, the top (or head) of a column in architecture is its capital, and the chief (or head) city of a state is its capital city. But the building built in the style of the buildings of ancient Rome is a capitol.

In school, I remember the teacher teaching us to remember the difference by looking at the "o", it's round like the dome on the Capitol.

Sorry if I got too pedantic, but I was a language major in college, and I have seldom had a chance to put any of that to actual use. :D

Prost!

I majored in language at High School, but I'm not allowed to use it here

My forum name is simply my surname - not too imaginative I suppose! Officially, and to the parents, work, etc., I'm Peter, but for as long as I can remember, close friends have simply called me Molloy. Even my girlfriend still uses my second name, and that's after nearly two years!

Cheers,

Peter (for a change:D).

Nickname given to me at work, some 20 years ago, to describe my appearance when I rolled in for the early (6am) shift. Took a huge amount of caffeine and nicotine + 4 hours to resemble anything human like.
I'm not a morning person.

Who is? Mornings were made for sleeping!

Too true. :( Unfortunately, there are members of the public out there who disagree with us and insist on bothering me at stupid-o'clock a.m.

IMNSHO, the best and most beautiful fighter of WWII and the only airframe to maintain its status through various upgrades as (Mk1, Mk 5, Mk9 and Mk 14) over the full course of the war as an air combat master.

I have a great link to a Spitfire ground hugging pass video over a much surprised British journalist that I will post on my member profile page since it has some very graphic language (at the end) for anyone who is interested.

Pity, it looks like one was a very rare Mk I or II but perhaps they can be restored. It is amazing what can be done these days.

Pity, it looks like one was a Hurricane actually but even more rare these days. Perhaps they can be restored. It is amazing what can be done with modern restoration techniques.

my choice was a stroke of genius. i was looking at my Somerset Indian Lancers and there you go.- lancer

My name may appear odd, unless you're an FJ fan perhaps. Rethymno (also Retimo, Rethymnon etc) was one of the airfields on Crete. My grandfather fought there as part of the Australian 6th division (along with lots of Brits, Kiwis and the locals).

I am an admirer of Winston Churchill and collect glossies. Churchill was commissioned in the 4th Hussars and the 4th was also a long running WB set.

Mine is neither my initials, age  Or anything else relating to me or anything I know about  It's just what it is. :p:cool:
