Wild card here - tank crews can be small guys.

My 6'6" son could not get into a chieftan tank, all the crew were less than 5'3".

Variation in figure size of men for me is not the issue, it is the kit - standard size guns, webbing, radios etc and vehicles.

Even comparing tank crews height to where they come up to on the tank in WWII photos is not foolproof. Especially if members of tank crews were typically short. So Manufacturers could make tank crew shorter than other soldier figures (shorter but not smaller in scale) so they would look better with 1:30 AFVs. At 5' 6", a 1:30 soldier would be 2.2" (5.6 cm) from his bare feet to the top of his bare head. At 1:28 it would be 2.36" (6.0 cm) Boots, helmet and base would add to that.
