Just where the heck is Waldoboro? Our old mate Larry has been posting for ages and only just this day noticed that he is from 'WALDOBORO' and I said to myself there just couldn't be a place with such a name! it has to be bogus! :wink2: well I 'google maped' it and low and behold it is in Maine USA. Onya Larry, any bloke that comes from place called 'WALDOBORO' is ok with me....:salute::

Larry can read Chinese? His avatar is a nuclear submarine? He collects patriotic AWI soldiers? Do we have a "spook" on the Forum?{eek3}{sm4}

Ya' it is a real place ... although sort of remote way up in the North Eastern part of the US. Waldoboro comes from the name of the founder General Samuel Waldo. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldoboro,_Maine for a decent history.

We actually have sidewalks and street lights and everything. It is just that they are covered in snow for 11 months out of the year ... or it seems like that. It is quite and rural just the way I like it. My good OZ friends, I would be a thinkin' that Waldoboro is juss' about as far for Australia as I can git' And for you guys ... that is probably a good thing. --- Larry

I still love to read all the post from you gents ... sometimes I try the words and phrases out on these Waldoboro folks and they are just about ready to have tied to a tree for a bit .... ^&grin

The Chinese is a bit of an inside joke with George ....... I served on BOTH a nuclear sub and an aircraft carrier so I covered both ends of the spectrum, I guess.

As far as a "spook" .... well I do carry a few pieces of unwanted lead and I am hiding way up here in Maine, so .... {sm2} {sm2}

Was very fortunate to spend several days in Maine and stayed in a beautiful old home at Mere Point for 3x days over the summer of 2011. We had an amazing time there, absolutely loved the scenery and the locals were very friendly. While there also got introduced to 'lobster rolls' at a real 'drive in' and visited an 'LL Bean' mega store to name a few.

As they say up your way Larry .......'Cool as a Moose'....^&grin

Mere Point is a gorgeous place, without doubt. It is about an hours drive south of Waldoboro, weather permitting. I have friends near there so I do get to visit once in a while.

Now that you had a (correct pronunciation).. {sm4} .. Lobsta' Roll you can be considered an official Mainer.
Since Mere Point is near Freeport (the outlet capital of the Milky Way) LL Bean is the place to go, but bringing the ladies to a town with 1000 stores to shop with very expensive items is a VERY dangerous thing to do. You are a brave man!

If anyone is ever in the Mid-Coast area, please let me know a bit in advance as I would be honored with a visit.

Oh yes ... there's my friend Sam. You know, we still dress that way here in Waldoboro. ... :rolleyes2:
During the summer it is great. But when the winter winds get a blowin' you REALLY have to be careful of FROST BITE ... {sm2} {sm2}

Maybe I'll bring my wife to Valley Forge. She's Chinese. Maybe she and Larry can converse :rolleyes2:

Maybe Larry has a line on good dimsum in Waldoboro.

"Onya -Australian slang, a contraction of "Good on you" signifying heartfelt praise and approval. "

Ach, so. Ach, sooooooooo!

Mornin' Jazzeum .... Na' you won't be finding any good Dimsum within a 100 miles.

In the Mid-coast, we have a few Chinese "take-outs" that will do in an emergency, but nothing like I used to get when I lived in Boston. I would head down to Chinatown with a few of my Chinese buddies and go to the places where they only speak Chinese. Now that was GOOD ^&grin (and authentic) Chinese food. Unfortunately, it forever spoiled me for anything else that people try to pass off as Chinese food in these places.

The only Chinese I can speak is .... Pu Pu Platter for two, please! ...{sm2}

Just a couple of photos to show you a "typical" New England day. I am sure most Froggers from .. Maine, New Hampshire, Mass and Vermont will understand.

Here I am getting my morning exercise. .... {sm2}

Finally, I can get the car out after about 6 hours of shoveling.

YES .... The sun does shine ... occasionally ....{sm4}

That must be the State of California's marketing campaign to move west.

We got there in July, so it was fairly hot and full of folks on holiday. Yes I remember now it's 'Lobsta', which probably comes out funny in my Kiwi accent, but would sound worse if you heard any of those Aussie's try to pronounce it....:tongue:^&grin.

Yes we visited Newport and I have the tee-shirt, thankfully I only had the teenage daughter with me, but that was bad enough and the wallet took a hammering. I got to see the Lobsta boats race up close and even went for a couple of swim's. I'll try to dig some pic's out and post a couple soon.

Cheers!

My red dog was walking me on along the beach this lovely autumn morning just a short walk from home and I was thinking Larry mate do yourself a fav and come to a place where the only snow you will see is on the box. Here's what you do mate, jump on the dog and bone and make a booking, then throw on your best bag of fruit, grab the trouble and strife and the billy lids, your dish licker and mouse trap and hop in the Malvern star or hail a smash and grab and do a Harold Holt down to the local aeroplane place, and Nellie Bligh down under in a flying Roo. Once here it wouldn't be so crook, you can put on a pair of budgie smugglers, relax in the sun, put your plates of meat up and enjoy a bug or three washed down with a tinny or two.....Onya. :wink2:

PS. Sure you don't live in Middle Earth? kinda looks like what Toddy does every morning.......^&grin

Thanks Wayne mate......hehe....yes I could have done with a snow shovel at times in my job, to plough my way through piles of you know what......^&grin

Good Morning (in Maine) guys ...

Well at first I was convinced that you were messing with my head, trying to drive me insane .. or more insane than I already am. :p :p
Then I figured this was a test of my decryption and decoding skills. So I went the CIA, the FBI, the NSA and a bunch of other agencies to see it they could understand this bizarre message .... they all failed :(

But someone suggested that I try SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) to see if it was from a strange and alien race of life ... and sure enough they were on the right track. After 30 hours super computer usage this is what came out..

Larry mate do yourself a fav FAVOR and come to a place where the only snow you will see is on the box TELEVISION. Here's what you do mate, jump on the dog and bone PHONE and make a booking, then throw on your best bag of fruit SUIT, grab the trouble and strife WIFE and the billy lids KIDS, your dish licker DOG and mouse trap CAT and hop in the Malvern star BIKE or hail a smash and grab CAB and do a Harold Holt STRANGE DISAPPEARENCE down to the local aeroplane place AIRPORT, and Nellie Bligh TAKE A TRIP down under in a flying Roo QANTAS AIRLINE.

Once here it wouldn't be so crook ILL or SICK , you can put on a pair of budgie smugglers BATHING SUIT, relax in the sun, put your plates of meat FEET up and enjoy a bug or three Moreton Bay Bug or Lobster washed down with a tinny or two BEER.....Onya

HOW DID I DO? ..... ^&confuse. Hope I didn't make a blue. Well I'll be Gobsmacked if I got it close! I still think it is a plot to make me go crazy and then convince the trouble and strife to kick in my collection to you. Still it might be just the thing I need, to Chuck a sickie for a walk about with my Aussie mates ..... {sm2} {sm2}
