Guys...

With the excellent repaint of the K&C King Tiger II from uksubs some will know I am repainting two for the Hungarian campaign in 45. The tank is now done to a stage where its all about weathering the tracks and wheels and, the superstructure. I have added some pics to show what its like and, one of the many photo's supplied to work to from the actual campaign.

Hope you like it and will post shortly the finished tank.

Looks great Mitch & I've been told it hard work to get the white wash right

uksubs...

Its a nightmare to be honest. Too white it looks wrong and unreal but, I started this one last night and worked on the undercoat which took about 1 hour. Then went over it several times today and added the detail to the shovels and stuff like that.

Its hard to see in the pics but, I have painted the white so as to resemble the hand painting in the field. There is texture to it and, tonal variations with some thicker than other layers.

Mitch, great work as always. Can't wait to see the finished product. I have a ton of respect for all the guys who customize these vehicles-I'm just not in that league with regards to painting skills.

Mitch,

Looks "all white" to me! ;):D.........seriously - repainting models and figures is more work than starting from scratch. Looks great. :)

Looking Good, Mitch....Can't wait to see the end product....Are you using an airbrush?......Best Frank

Vezzolf...

Thanks. No its all done by hand with paint brushes. I like them and have an Awati system but, only use it for tri-colour on german AFV's I personally, like the effect I get from hand brushing and the texture and paint variation I can get compared to the airbrush. Though, I suppose each to their own.

strategosathena..

The two tigers I am repainting are from units of the SS fighting in the Budapest etc battles

Mitch, What is an Awati System??.....and Why only for Tri-Color??....Thanks for the Info.... Frank

Vezzolf...

I use an awati airbrush and generator etc. For me, and its probably down to skill I find that I cannot get the effect of the whitewash and grey with the airbrush as I can by hand. I can get better tone and thickness level and a more realistic appearance by hand. Tri/double colour is different as its not a thing I have ever been able to do right by hand. I am never satisfied about the results so, its easier to get the effect with an airbrush and then wash the colours away to get a faded realistic look.

Mitch, From what website did you get the WWII Photo of the Winter Tiger II....Can you give us the link for these photos?? Thanks Frank

Frank...

Will try to find out as this one and a few others came in a little folder with the tanks to show what was required paint wise. Most of the stuff I have comes from primary sources such as veterans etc or from books published on the subject.
