I tend to agree with Bob on this one. Perhaps we need to pinch ourselves to remind ourselves of the tremendous choices we have, even in the equine area, something we didn't have until recently, where every manufacturer has stepped up its game. It's a treat for me to have to choose between a horse made by K & C and other manufacturers.
Although this is a free forum, sometimes when it comes to humor, discretion is the better part of valor.
Well said, Brad.
When I started in this hobby there were no affordable matt figures (you had to buy the Russian figures, one of which cost more than a set of 5 toy soldiers).
Then K&C launched Arnhem in September, 1995, and everyone in the industry looked down their noses at it because it was matt, and everyone knows that Toy Soldiers are supposed to be Glossy.
By 2000, many collectors loved matt figures, and Frontline and Britains had joined K&C in producing matt figures.
Now, in 2010 we can add Figarti, First Legion, Thomas Gunn Miniatures, John Jenkins Designs, Collectors Showcase, Honour Bound and others.
If you collect matt figures, and are not thrilled with this choice, you are out of your mind. I started out collecting only K&C matt figures. Over the last 5 years I have added Figarti, John Jenkins, Honour Bound and a few First Legion to my collection. I don't buy everything from any company, I buy what I like from every company that interests me.
If you want to be a "true believer" of one manufacturer or the other, go right ahead. I will as Andy Neilson so aptly puts it, "buy what I like."
