Who on here is a Roman collector? (1 Viewer)

Couple of updates:

Bracae are longer and looser trousers more like what "barbarians" would wear and would not have been just leggings. While in the provinces bracae became very popular by the end of the 2nd century AD, it does not look like wearing them in Rome itself was acceptable through the end of the 4th Century. Also, in the 3rd century AD all trousers were known as bracae and feminalia no longer appears to be in general use.

The "socks" would most likely have been covered by tibiale or gaiters named after the tibia.

Ok, back to work.

Tried to resist but after hearing K+C is working with JJD on a Roman series as well as the upcoming Gunn war elephant, I just ordered 3 Romans. I suppose I can work overtime to find my new collection. :

It has begun. May the gods have mercy on my wallet. IMG_0252.JPG

In for penny in for a pound, my bank is rubbing their hands together. My only chance is that one of the Elephants crushes me. Robin.

Roman Artillery, A Roman tower and wall section and an EK Castings Legionnaire guarding them. The Ballista and Onagre are from Elastolin. The tower is built using Exin Castillios blocks. The scale is 1/30 and the figure is 65mm tall.

Hi,

i'm a ordinary collector, but i like the figures of the ancient world. Since KC create a new range, i will buy some of the new romans. They look reallly good!
They will join my Centurion and Primum Pillus.

The new Romans from K&C do look very good.:)
As a fan and collector of the Imperial Romans from Wargames Foundary 28mm metal figures range that I painted up several years ago (over 500 figures including cavalry, Catapult and a Legate Chariot). I am looking forward, enthusiastically too some really nice K&C figures in this new Range. These early 1st Century AD figures are now a must for me!:)

I have question regarding comparisons between Thomas Gunn Romans and the King and Country Life of Jesus & new The Roman ranges.
Are they compatible or are the significant size and size differences?
I know the Brittains Romans style and size doesn't look very compatible, but it's hard to tell by photos of Thomas Gunn Romans..

Julie posted excellent size comparison photos of the TG and FL Roman Legion figures on the Size Comparison thread. The TG and FL figures are size compatible at 60mm tall. The K&C figures are about 65mm tall and are not compatible with TG, FL, TCS and Conte; which are between 58 and 60mm tall. K&C are size compatible with Del Prado; Rome and her Enemies figures.

Just trying to gauge how many people on here primarily collect Roman or ancient figures. It's always good to know who your kindred spirits are and indeed who you are up against when trying to snap them all up! I know you do Joe!

I really like the T Gunn Romans and Spartans, have stopped collecting the K & C Greeks and will not collect the Romans, main reasons are funds and cost/quality. There are basically too many great sets and series out there, but I may look at the new First Legion Camp Romans, they are a little expensive but they are fantastic figures, I collect their AWI series and the winter Napoleonic figures.

I have from T Gunn 48 figures from the 9th Legion and 26 from the 30th Legion, looking forward to the elephants and also someone for them to fight.......

My wallet is taking a beating. The collecting gods have no mercy. IMG_0346.JPGIMG_0345.JPGIMG_0344.JPG

Posted on a new thread but worth repeating.
I received the new K&C Romans and put them with my TG and FL collection.
Happy to say that they go very well with TG and not bad with FL.
Size is close enough, the new Romans are smaller than the ones for the LOJ series,
and painting is very close to FL.
I concentrated on the three legions involved in the Claudian invasion of Britain;
K&C's Legio XX (Valeria Vixtrix), FL's Legio II (Augusta) and TG's Legio IX (Hispana).
Now only waiting for TG and JJD to bring on some adversaries, hopefully the Celts!

I find it of great interest that the majority of the manufacturers of Romans except K&C have standardized on a 58-60mm figure size that was initiated by Conte. K&C figures are an outlier with 65mm figures. Aeroart, Conte, TCS, TG, Kronprinze and FL are all size compatable. The current Russian castings range from 54 to 65mm. My Legionary from EK Castings is 65MM while the Black Hawk, Niena Studios and EOI are 54mm figures. The new standard seems to be centered between the extreams of 54 and 65mm.

TCS has some very nice size compatible Celts in their 43AD series. Two new ones were just released.

K&C would have to do something extra special (!) for me to collect their Roman range. It's not cutting my nose off but as I see it, you have to draw the line somewhere in terms of expense and because they are already the market leader and have worked hard to get there, I prefer to support the manufacturers that are working equally hard to compete and gain a firm foothold in what is a niche industry. Plus I don't collect Romans with blue feminalia!

The new K&C Romans are very compatible with TG and FL. They are probably 60mm unlike their larger Romans from the LOJ range. Standing side by side there is little difference in height with FL and TG so I think they got the hint. The three makers will complement each other in a diorama. In my opinion K&C's new Roman sculpts are very close in quality to FL. Lets see how their action figures compare when released.

K&C got the message on size and the blue color. The new figures are 60mm tall and the legs are bare flesh color. TG needs to get the same message about color, as they copied the early 2001 issue K&C Roman colors for some reason.

I agree the romans from KC are too expensive for what they are , TG are the best for value and quality,

First legion nice but too expensive, only get the unusual things like scorpion set and upcoming roman catapult set
