This is a question for all of you guy's out there. Why are some of us switching to First Legion products instead of sticking to other companies we usually buy. Well for me they are fresh and new and exciting and making great figures that make you look twice. It maybe the gamble they have taken on with a different 1/30 scale and new materials . Just a thought what has got you guy's buying them. Simmo. {sm4}

Well, as they don't do any subject that I am interested in yet and they are price wise quite a bit dearer my money won't be going their way just yet.
Wayne.

So what's the point of responding to the question then? ^&confuse

True "accurate" 1:30th scale figures that are unsurpassed in realism.....Subject matter "cohesive", "focused" and throughly covered....Historically accurate and detailed.... not cartoonish....A manufacturer that is truely interested in "product improvement","innovative" and "listens" to collectors.....Quite simply the best TS product out there.PERIOD.....that's why:wink2:

Simmo,

I agree they are fresh and exciting, not to mention thay no matter which range you choose they are the best made figures out there. They are also not afraid to try something new like the Renaissance range instead of relying on the old "it's what sells" patter. For those who think the pricepoints are too vast the gap is closing.

In the range that I like, Civil War, there are nothing like them.

FL is again getting my money because of a variety of reasons, but the most important of them all is the fantastic figure quality. I don't have a lot of display room, so I'd rather have less but better. My very personal taste tells me that apart from the best connoisseur/model figures (a different league) FL are the best matte figures around (I really like Britains too but their proposal is different, more toyish, which I prefer in gloss, vg Imperial: top one). To me the FLs are figures which one can display in a variety of ways depending on what you want and can get: mass,diorama, stand alone. The quality really comes through anyway. And I can get them paying in Euros, which is quite practical at the moment^&grin...

A lot of the points have already been touched on, good sculpts, good painting, good research, deep well covered ranges, subject matter that interests me, responsiveness to constructive criticism, good customer service.

Several reasons for me, most having already been mentioned. The obvious one being the quality of the sculpting and painting. The thing I like best is they don't just dabble in a range. They commit to developing a range fully from the get go. This is what I like best, knowing that you will have a well rounded selection of figures from any given range. I like that kind of vision and execution. And like Brad said, they aren't afraid to take chances, as w/ their exquisite Renaissance line. Right out of the shoot you have a whole host of figures to consider. There's no just sticking your toe in to check the water temperature w/ FL; they just dive right in! That sure adds excitement to the hobby for me, because it opens up possible production of all kinds of more obscure ranges many others may have never considered.
One other thing I'd like to mention that I don't think was mentioned already....I have yet to receive a damaged FL figure. Although their figures are very intricate and detailed, they are quite well put together and sturdy. I like being able to count on that, because it's always so disheartening to open a new box only to find damaged contents. I mean no one is perfect, and things do get broken in transit sometimes no matter who made them. But with FL, I am batting a thousand in this regard, and I'm very appreciative of the peace of mind and confidence this brings.

You raise a good point regarding the packaging. It is well engineered and protects the fragile parts of the figure very well. This is true for the AFVs as well. Ironically the much maligned light weight material used in their construction goes a long way to ensure they arrive in one piece.

I think Joe said it all.......it's been less then 6 months since I started collecting First Legion ...I have 13 Romans ......8 Civil War and 2 Stalingrad .......and I will keep this collection going !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As Frank mentioned already, many good reasons have been given to the question by Simmo, but also from my point of view is the mighty dollar, as I'm neither a surgeon nor lawyer but a regular blue collar worker, First Legion allows me the time to pick up sets along the way each month or even every few months, not having to chase retired/sl sets for my WWII range works great for me and esp. the wife:)... a happy wife=a happy hobby:)...Sammy

Excellent Post.... Totally agree: First Legion does not dabble in ranges.....Well said

FL simply makes a great product. Well-developed ranges and dynamic animation in their figures, similar to Britains in this respect. I like all of their ranges but, being disciplined and sticking with some British/French Napoleonics and some samurai's. Would like to know if they are going to start-up either a Battle of Hastings or Agincourt range which would interest me. I might go for their Romans if these 2 possible ranges don't pan out... Patiently waiting a long time...

I agree that FL makes very high quality figures and extensive ranges. They are certainly the premier maker of Napoleonics and both the ACW and AWI are going in that direction as well.
I have some of their Napoleonic figures but honestly was not thrilled with the square bases. I see how they work in massed formations but difflcult to place when doing a rough terrain diorama. Just my personal preference.
I do have the complete Renaissance range and hope they expand this series. Very unique and colorful.
In addition because of the cost and wonderful artistry I tend to look at FL for more "static displays". Anotherwords, less like "toy soldiers" that can be moved around more often and handled with less concern about breakage.
I have experienced more breakage than K&C and JJD for example but nothing that a little glue couldn't fix.
They are a great company and set high standards for our hobby......I continue to be ecclectic in my collecting, however, so they will be one of many players in my line-up.

Well a lot of good reasons to buy First Legion have been mentioned. They are dearer than other toy soldier makers and this has me buying less but enjoying what I get even more. Can't wait to see what they have installed for us in the future. Simmo.{sm4}

Joe, I would have to agree with you on every point you make here. Not only is the quality of the First Legion top notch, their commitment to fully exploring a range is also very important. I can't say enough good about this company!

I bought my 1st First Legion figures recently - a couple of the Renaissance Pikeman.

I'm impressed with that set and and hoping for more Renaissance sets in the future.

Mick
