Why no Waterloo Prussians? (1 Viewer)

It would appear that between K&C, Britains, First Legion, Frontline and Collector's Showcase, pretty much the entire British and French armies at Waterloo could be modelled in good quality flat-finish figures, with a handful of Dutch/Belgians thrown in. Where are the Prussians? Seems like to me with the interest in the battle, there wouold be a market for at least a representative few Prussian infantry.

I agree with you..the prussians could be very interesting , given their various uniforms (coming from different sources) and their ragged appearance.There si an understimation of the prussian role in the toy soldier's world too..Hofschroer docet.

hi i use prince august moulds to cast my own figures and they have a range of prussian moulds in 54mm which allow you to cast grenadier and musketeer regiments in a variety of different poses.

i defo agree that the major manufacturers should give the prussians more coverage with regards to waterloo.

This question has been asked before and apparently Prussians have boring uniforms, so I would imagine that was why the Russians were made instead!

I saw that one, but in terms of quality it just doesnt seem to be up to current standards -- in my mind not quite as good as older Frontline. I wouldnt want o put it in a display with my K&C or recent Britains.

I don't think the prussian uniforms are boring , just look at http://www.mont-saint-jean.com/cent_jours/accueil.php and their many variations (for example the former Confederation of the Rhine units retained their french like uniforms) and to entice the collectors will be sufficient to reproduce the landwehr with their distinctive cross on the cap (very similar to the Russian Opolchenie by the way)..i think it' s all a matter tastes and of historical information..on many units there are not so good informations on what they wore or not.

I have suggested Prussians on a number of occasions and the boring uniform excuse has never convinced me they wouldn't sell. Of course there is also the issue that most British people feel that they won the battle and not the Prussians. This denial may even extend to Prussians in miniature - who knows

I expect FL will get around to them. They may show up with something like the Battle of Jena or one of their many losses or perhaps at Leipzig or Waterloo.

Prussians are most important for the Battle of Waterloo,(late arriving or not,) IMO they don't have boring uniforms at all. Just different and historically important. I have seen Prussian cavalry from a company that I collect, but no infantry.

Okay, around Nov/Dec I'll have a really serious look at the ATS catalogue.
I'm liking more and more of what I see - and I understand you can ask for a matte finish rather than gloss.
No offense or disparagement whatsoever about glossies. I simply prefer the matte finish.
Only fly in the ointment I can see is the old (yawn) issue of scale. But as has been mentioned numerous time, they don't HAVE to be displayed with other manufacturers products if they happen to be incompatible, whether it's scale, painting style, sculpting, and so on.

Actually, think I'll head over to the ATS website later today, maybe have yet another look at those Duchess of Richmond's Ball figures.

For better or worse, doing Waterloo is something of a check list item I would say for any toy soldier company. Plus, it's an interesting battle and it allows for a great and varied representation of the French Army (where else can you do Old Guard Chasseurs in campaign dress actually fighting!), the Anglo-Allied Army (with all of its wonderful variety), and dare I say the (seldom produced) Prussian Army. The latter of which are extremely important in my view because of the ability to use most of the 1815 Prussian Army in the campaigns of 1813-1814 not to mention for Ligny and Wavre as well...

I thought this tidbit from the Spanish Ulcer FL thread might be appropriate. Seems like I was presentient.

Is there anyone who collects Russians? I'm in doubt about adding them to my Napoleon colection. I see more in Prussians, Bavarians, Austrians and of course Dutch Guards in their white uniform but also the Dutch and Belgian who attend the battle of Waterloo.

Nice figures to be sure, but unfortuinately gloss figures have never done a thing for me. I guess it's because I came to this hobby from modelling and figure painting -- gloss just doesn't look "real" to me.

These are old photos - I have them in a different display right now - I like the Russian figures and especially that Artillery Set !
