Just wanted to share a view pictures of a diorama that I have been building using the recent ACW sets. I was inspired by Mike and Chris's diorama to create a version of the widow Lydia Leister's farmhouse as it was on July 2nd. I have also included some of the recently released sets to create the scene. I do not have an end date yet and at the rate I am going, will be finished in time for the 175th anniversary of Gettysburg. Let me know what you think of my progress so far.

Looks great to me. I see you have used some of the small buildings from the outbuilding set. I've been thinking of buying that set.

This is an excellent photo series. . . . . very well done and thought out. Great looking backdrop, I really like the use of the picket fence sections (who makes these?), and the different corps flags are a great touch. Overall a very nice interpretation of the events of the day around the Leister farm house. Its nice to see that you have a hobby that will occupy your time for at least the next 25 years :tongue: :wink2:
:smile2: Mike

What an excellent looking scene, thank you for sharing. As Mike said, the use of the various Corps flags is a really nice addition.

Wonderful scenes. Particularly like the band. Like Mike, I would like to know who makes the picket fence. Chris

Very nice indeed. What a great start to a fantastic dio. Keep up the great work and keep Us all posted. Thanks: {bravo}}

This is indeed a marvelous work in progress!! Keep us posted. Looks great!

Really great scene! I am glad someone is doing this, as I love the non-combat ACW sets that have been produced, but do not collect the series. I just have a couple questions:
Could we see an aerial view of the whole display?
How did you make the extra corps flags?
Did you modify the trooper holding the 3rd Corps flag? Is the original figure holding the 2nd Corps flag?
Who is holding the artillery guidon?
Why not include the US flag that comes with the set of Meade & Co.?
Are you thinking of including any other pieces, like the signal flagman, artillery, casualties/medical, other drummers, or cantinieres?

Regards,
Sandor :salute::

Thanks for all of the positive comments. Here are the answers to everyone's questions and comments. The WB out building set does go well with the house and seems to add to the diorama. There were some out buildings to the Leister house between the barn and the house. The backdrop is from Backdrop Junction. Dave the owner got a landscape and matched the color of the bases I got from Erica and Ken with the back drop and them got rid of all of the modern elements. It is 40 inches high by 10 feet long. As far as the picket fence, it is a resin kit done by Bayardi that I painted to match the house and out buildings. The kit is a single section and you can also get corner posts. The two gates are also Bayardi kits and are functional. The extra Corps flags are done by John Sanheim. He also did the Artillery Reserve flag which I used as a center focus of the staff image. I wanted to add color to the image so John did the research and created the flag. John has done almost 60 flags for me of various regiments and other functions that I swap or use in other figures that were converted to carry flags. It is amazing the detail John gets on the flags. I wanted to standardize the size and shape of the flags so I have converted all of the WB flag figures to use John's flags. I did modify all of the WB troopers holding Corps flags to accept multiple flags so that I can convert to any Corps flag necessary for each scene. I also have the 5th and 12th Corps flags. The figure holding the Artillery Reserve flag is 31073 Chosen Ground command set that I converted to a member of the artillery by changing his piping to red versus yellow on the original figure. I decided to remove the National flag from the set as I could not find any reference of Meade using it at Gettysburg to mark his headquarters. he would later develop his own flag to mark his Headquarters but would not have it at Gettysburg. I also wanted to use just the pack and drum to complete the drum major figure as I wanted to show that he would also have a field drum. I am looking at using other WB figure to complete the scene besides the artillerymen tearing done the fence to be used with the battery forge in the background. Here are some aerial images. Sorry everyone for the 2 duplicate images. A case of the old fat figure curse.

Excellent work! Thank you for sharing your efforts with us.

Wow! I think understanding what went into a diorama makes it even more beautiful! I really admire the knowledge you have accumulated on this topic, and it sounds like this will be quite the piece when all is said and done. The conversions/flags look GREAT! I like the drum touch, but even more, I love the artillerymen disassembling the fence! Have you found a field forge yet (or is that one in the background....Frontline perhaps?)
Regards,
Sandor
