Here is the first picture .
The orphanage will be in two parts, I am now working on the 1st part , "the entrance"
The diorama will show a scene from Christmas 1944: Gi's visiting an orphanage in the Ardennes region with loads of presents for the children.
(The children will be conversions of several brands: K&C, Kronprinz and TGM)

Some progress on the 1st part the building .
The roof consists of +/-500 individual tiles . You can see the difference between the finished tiles and those I still have to highlight and put in some shadow ;
Will keep you updated

Joe you're not far from the truth.
1. The Ardennes Orphanage diorama will be a Christmas dio. 24th of December 1944 in the Namur, Dinant region in the Belgian Ardennes.
2. I am gathering all the stuff for a May 1940 diorama that will be called " On Flanders roads"
3. I have the church ready for an SS wedding ceremonial in Munich
4. For D-day I am working on a small and simple Omaha beach scene ( with water)
and more to come

Do you eat and sleep? Looking at the list, besides the DDay, you choose unusual subjects for your projects. Makes them unique. I'll be looking forward to them.

Wonderful work as usual from you Guy. :salute::

Tell me, As it's such an unusual subject to choose. when you decided on this project was it based on something you'd read or heard of ?

Steve, some time ago I saw a picture in a book of US soldiers giving candy to Belgian Children in the winter of 1944. ( maybe for Xmas ??)
This was enough to trigger my imagination : " little orphans having few or no luxuries, looked after by nuns and receiving gifts from a GI dressed as Santa Claus helped by some US nurses.
research of orphanages in the Namur and Dinant region from 1940 till 1945 gave me a name and some more ideas I will use in my diorama.
Now you know what the diorama will be, but what you don't know is what the end result will look like.

It's a very fine finish to this building Guy. And the subject matter for the dio you're intending sounds quite worthy. I'll be watching..................Joe

Guy,

I always look forward to watching your projects grow to their finished conclusion. Thanks for sharing.

Steve
