Looks like a nice place for someone else to visit!

there was a special on these fish. I think they are from a raging river in the Congo and that river spawns new species all the time. Really interesting stuff but, yeah, stay out of the water.

Nasty little blighter, you'd know it if that took a chunk out of your leg!

Glad the worse we have in the UK is the pike!

Characins is the order, much like carnivores is an order, which would then make tigers and wolves related.

For some reason you have chosen the 'Family' level of classification as a 'Relationship' cut-off point. That rule is against scientific principles.

Primates is also an Order, same as your Carnivore example. Under your rule you are saying Humans are not related to the other Primates which is clearly wrong.

I agree with Britfarmer, Order might be a bit too high in the taxonomy to imply direct relation. Humans are better linked to apes by noting we share the family Hominidae.

Oz if you take your extended reasoning far enough, humans are directly related to that fish too since we evolved from fish and share the Phylum Chordate. ;)

But yeah, every living thing on earth is related, so it's subjective how we define the term related. But I actually do like an expanded understanding of the word because it helps remind humans about our proper place in the natural order. We're too busy trashing the earth to think about that sometimes.

You revisionists are all the same, you can't now introduce direct into this relationship debate :p Britfarmer stated that they were not related - because they are in different Families. There was no mention of the term direct, so why introduce it now?

Sigh....
