WS014 Stug question??? (1 Viewer)

I bought one of these the first year they were being made at a toy show. It had a blue putty in the tank where the barrel goes in to hold it in. From what I understand this is all original. Well I recently sold mine on eBay and the guy who bought it is upset about it. Can anyone verify for me what held the gun into the tank?

All the older tanks came with the guns separate. Some people just stuck them in the turret, glued them in place or used tacky wax. The original seller may have used this material. I wouldn't say it's abnormal.
 
I bought a few of the early K&C tanks when they were first issued, on line. The photo's on the web site showed completed tanks but they arrived with the barrels off. Included in the box was a small piece of blue/white putty wrapped in cellophane. I called the dealer and he said the same as Brad.. use it to buttemble the barrel into place. I also used a piece of a folded matchbook cover to elevate the barrel...
 
I would defer to Andy (Pugio) on this one because I was never the original purchaser but bought them after they were long retired.
 
I hae seen a few of the earlier tanks listed for sale on ebay and was surprised to see in the description that the barrels were separate. The seller warned the buyer in the description that the barrel was to be held in place with putty. I suppose if paying the price for an early model and not expecting the barrel to be separate, it would be quite a shock.

While the stug is in the condition it was designed as, the description probably was missing an important point. :(

Definitely separate. I was the first to open this box.

The first time I purchased one of these, a WS 23 Panther, I was surprised when I found the gun separate but the seller buttured me this was the way things had been done. All that I purchased came with them separate and I've had no problem inserting the gun into the turret and having it stay there. The only exception was the first Wittmann Tiger in poly, WS 15, where, even with the use of tacky wax, it kept drooping.
 
Guess you could see why this would freak people out if they were not aware of the design issues

Hey, if the buyer is that upset and wants to return it, I am more than happy to purchase it from you. I feel your pain with being hassled about something like the scenario you outlined above.

Just sold a ws23 and still had some unused sky blue putty plus what i had used. Sometimes i wish i didn't sell it though. The earlier kc vehicles have a certain attraction or stlye to them
 
I love how some of the newer collectors fancy themselves experts on the older releases.

I had one guy, for those of you who remember, who flipped out because "these figures are wrapped in toilet paper - like the kind you wipe your butt with!" Blah, blah, blah. He's a member here - maybe he knows better now. but I never received an apology for the rant he put me through. Sheesh...

Just point the buyer to the forum here where all will be explained.
 
Further to your point Gideon, I had a buyer return a set of K & C because it was in the old green box and he had never seen that before. I tried to explain it to him but he availed himself of my return policy that I accept returns. I have since changed that policy.
 
I used to have summer one great little tank :cool:( a wee bit ruff) finally got the the winter one i dont know what one is more collectable :eek:
