These guys were lonely for a long time; I don't think I've seen them in a diorama ever, & I sure as heck didn't know what to do with them. As lonely as DD064 in it's day

WS040 is looking like a squad now.

A good example showing how well they blend

yes, the sculpts do work well with each other despite being years apart. The painting is slightly different, but that's OK to me. The 2012 figs are more weathered and have the salty veteran look while the WS040 set looks like fresh replacements off on their wide eyed adventure in Russia. Nice contrast between the two sets.
 
These do look good together. I have two of the figures from the old WS040 and have always liked the way they looked. Glad to see that these new early war figures will go with them. I'll probably pick up a few of these new figures to add to my old two.

They do set up nicely. Good call too on the rugged vet look versus the fresh recruits.
