Inspired by Konrad's gloss Sons Of The Empire I thought I'd try it with early WW1 Germans. I really like the way they look. I'd never do it with WW2 figures. I think with Napoleonics, Rev War, Alamo marching or at attention figures a gloss coating would really work. I think that's how K&C do the gloss Sikhs. They just put a gloss coating on the matte figures.

Detailed gloss finish DOES look nice,

well done,

John

I like them a lot {bravo}}
Thanks for posting, jrsteel.

I've said it before, giving a matt figure a coat of gloss varnish certainly brings out the colours and gives a nice deep rich feel to them! {bravo}}{bravo}}

May I join the others in congratulating you, I like your improvement! As Jeff points out, you achieve a depth with the gloss finish over the matte details.

I think you're right, too, about the subject and the time period. I think WWI or earlier periods lend themselves to the gloss or even traditional toy soldier finish, more than WWII and later periods.

Well done, prosit!

I never liked gloss finished toy soldiers! ... until now!!! {sm3}

I really like these WW1 soldiers and I'm thinking to do the same with mine ^&confuse

I might just have to buy another round of figures and do the same. Very nice.

When jrsteel started this thread with his WWI Germans done in a gloss finish, I got instantly hooked on the look of them.
Fortunately I had a successful hunt for some WWI figures and got the 5 mounted German Uhlans.
Three of them, the troopers, I got finished this weekend, applying the gloss varnish, and would like to share them here.
The bugler and the officer will join the charge next weekend.
Konrad

Absolutely amazing results. A superb job by jrsteel and Konrad. Now I am beginning to wonder what the WW1 French would look like in a high gloss over those blue and red uniforms. I'm guessing a show stopper.:wink2: -- Al

Outstanding ! These really look great Konrad. The photos you and jrsteel have posted of your reworked K&C figures are quite charming, and IMO a nice improvement to the originals.

Looking forward to seeing the officer and trumpeter when you get them finished. :) - Ken
