There is some conjecture as to whether this photograph of J18, a composite Mk V, was taken the day prior to or the day following the 'black day of the German Army'. I suspect it is the day before given the perceived undertaking of concealment.

Furthermore, keep this photograph in mind over the coming months..........
 
The Uncle that came home. This is a platoon photo taken some time in 1917 on the Somme. Bottom row second from the right is my Uncle 3784 Pte. John Dow 52nd/49th Battalions A.I.F.

Frank Hurley's photographic tribute to the anonymous heroes of the A.I.F. Ypres sector, 5 October 1917. A special photograph to me as it was taken on the same day my Grandfather was killed in action not far from the same spot.
