WW2 Marines - Pacific (1 Viewer)

Hello ! I'm very new here (today) And I've started to collect in Dec. My wife bought a 40th aniversary G.I.Joe for me. I had some as a kid but, never had much stuff. My father was a Marine in WW II in the pacific and saw combat but never spoke of his experiences. He's gone now and I decided to create a figure to remember him by. I've chosen a Marine Raider to create and already have spent alot on uniforms and accessories. A Lot! ( Don't tell the Mrs.! hehe!) There seem to be much availible out there for 1/6 scale collectors (1/6 scale condom packs? !!!!) and great detail ( wood and metal M-1). I feel overwhelmed but I want to try to create a small diorama with this now and I hope to get some good ideas here. I think there was a great reluctance on the part of returning vets to speak about there experiences due to the atrocities witnessed on both sides and the brutal nature of the pacific campaign such that, perhaps the trauma was too much. Anyway, I look forward to getting some great ideas and due justice to the memory of those who served.

Unfortunately, you are on the wrong site for anything marine corps from this company. I suggest you get on one of the many 1/6 scale sites that have several marine collectors that do figures exactly like history or the movies have portrayed them. I have a friend who has completed a John Wayne figure from Sands of Iwo Jima, and it looks EXACTLY like him right down to his knife...............Stryker

Thanks! I'm sure there are things I can learn here too as, from what I've read so far, seems to indicate that the people here are informed, interested, and posess outlooks that may inspire an artistic interpretation necessary for me to create something truly cool that, alone would be impossible. Just the fact that many here may have spoken to some of those vets and listened to their stories in a way I never was able to with my father, will help in my efforts. I also collected 1/72 scale and 1/35 scale a long time ago and always had **n.

Princeduncan: Yes I too was into that years ago--1/35th mainly vs 1/72 too small for my taste. I grew up with the marx sets every XMAS, and always looked forward to the Sears christmas catalog coming in the mail. I remember going to the large Sears store and seeing assembled store model displays of the sets, and told my dad which ones I really wanted that particular year.

As for the USMC, well needless to say, this site leaves one totally alone. With the Corp's battle record above and beyond anyone else, strangely some manufacturers, including this one, decline to cover them at all. Be that as it is, they certainly don't have to "explain anything to anyone" You either like us and support us, or you don't, we really don't care either way. Is that an attitude? YES it is, and its members are **** proud of it. We believe we are the best and our record proves it above and beyond.

I'm sorry you were not able to discuss things with your dad, I'm sure he had lots of stories to tell you. I think a figure to honor him is a nice gesture on your part...............Stryker

hi guys. i also would like to see more marines. i have all the k.c. marines and 2 assault boats but i would like to have marines with packs off shirts open wearing ammo bandoliers medics wounded ect.

I think I speak for almost everyone here, but we all have a deep respect for the USMC and it's history and combat record.

Absolutely Damian,we all have the deepest respect for the USMC and their contribution towards winning WW2.And lets remember one thing, although we all love collecting our figures they are just that,Toy Soldier Figures. It pales into insignificance compared to the real Soldiers of the USMC and their sacrifice on our behalf,we don't need Figures of them to remind us of what they did,we have a Pacific without the Japenese Army to remind us,and thats the real tribute.

NICE message, Rob!!!!!..................Stryker

I admire Stryker II's unrelenting passion for the USMC and their epic struggle in the Pacific during WWII. As it pertains to toy soldiers, even though its not my favorite theatre to collect I do like those Marines and their camo uniforms, for that matter I also enjoy the Japanese with their flags/banzai charge poses and Aussie's in their cowboy hats. I guess I'm just **nny that way!

Cheers

Rob: I hope this is true. I do know that in March, "some dealers" are going to see what a magnificent and ground-breaking series this is going to be, and wonder why they don't have ANYTHING TO SELL TO RELATE TO IT......Stryker

PolarBear:

Thank you for this information on figures of the USMC, I will definately be looking into some or all of these, as I am getting SO CLOSE to completing my Iwo Jima line by K & C. The new Britains line sounds rather interesting, so will definately have to check these out...........Semper Fi, Stryker

Stryker - I will have to send pictures of my converted Old NW Trading Co's GIs - easily turned them into WW2 Marines and buying Figarti's LVT-4 and including them in my K&C Iwo Jima diorama. I just bought all of the new K&C China Marines. They also became part of my Figarti Wake Island diorama. It all adds up to $$$ I'm spending on someone else's efforts.

Thanks Rob, will definately have to add some shelves to my already stuffed library. Is there anything being planned on Tarawa? I think I already have everything in print on that battle, but am always looking for things I don't have. This would be an excellent line for someone to do--it has all the elements of collecting with Japan's best men against ours, armor, artillery, amtracks (LVT-1 and 2), no one has done a LVT 1 yet.............Stryker

Kingtoot:

Congrats on your conversions, how did the helmet covers come out?

I'm going to get those new K&C Marines too, for Wake Island, as they definately look good. Have you seen the trailer 3 for the Pacific yet--awesome!!!!!.............Stryker

Here's a shout out to Britain's:

Hope your new Marine line is excellent, and I WILL BE buying the figures when they are completed--SIGHT UNSEEN.............Strer
