WW2 Marines - Pacific (3 Viewers)

A Wake Island scenerio with F4F's, Elrod and his men, and early war Marines could be very tempting. -- lancer

Brian:

May I suggest to you a couple of books that are the "bible" on correct uniforms and equipment, plus color combinations.

1. GRUNT GEAR---USMC COMBAT INFANTRY UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT OF WW II BY ALEC S. TULKOFF

2. MARINE CORPS UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT 1941-1945 BY BRUNO ALBERTI AND LAURENT PRADIER

3. OF COURSE ANY OF THE OSPREY TITLES DEALING WITH THE JAPANESE FORCES INCLUDING THE NEWER ONE ON THE IMPERIAL MARINES ENCOUNTERED AT TARAWA....................STRYKER II

I'll put them on order.

Thanks!

Another unusual small arm was the "Stinger" LMG. A few Marines took salvaged aircraft-type .30 MGs and added stocks and bipods for ground use. The aircraft gun had a much higher rate of fire than the standard M1919A4 LMG. They were discussed in an article in "American Rifleman" a few years ago.

I looked that up, now THAT would be a definate!!
Wow! What a piece-yankee ingenuity at its BEST!
Although I'd hate to be the guy who had to hump that beast through a jungle and over mountains!

Just so others will know the deal, the "Stinger" was a cobbled together field modification of the AN-M2 aircraft type .30 caliber machine gun. These were tail guns in Dauntless dive bombers, etc. The AN-M2 had a rate of fire in the range of 1200 rpm. According to the common story an ex-tool maker named Tony Stein was the main developer of this gun. There were a dozen or so modified weapons used on Iwo Jima and a few on Okinawa. Tony Stein used his Stinger in subduing several Japanese pillboxes on Iwo and won the CMH (posthumously).

The gun shown is a modern reproduction, most period pictures are poor quality.

I can picture the Japanese casualty figures piling up with one Gyrene with a Stryker, firing from the hip...there's a boxed set right there!!

There are some great deals for CS Waffen SS figures and diorama accessories on ebay right now..I've been contemplating getting them and including the SS figures I already have. Then I think about the valuable space it will take up in the house and, where will I fit these great Pacific Theater sets when they come out? I can't have both, so I'm saving that space for the future island fighting sets!!!

Figarti made a good effort at the photo taken after the flag-raising but the figures are not as good as they could have been. That same scenario by CS, one set climbing up Suribachi and another set after the flag-raising would send shivers up your spine.

Yes that would be very cool, but I definately would like Brian to do an attack at the seawall on Tarawa soon!!............Stryker II

I agree, Tarawa would be something new and different. Great USMC camo uniform possibilities, too. Great amtrak scenario possibility. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I just sold two K&C sets on ebay to build up the cash base and room for some Pacific Theater sets by CS. More to follow

I would also like to see more Pacific War figures. Tarawa and the log wall would be tops. I think their would be a market for Pacific War figures and model armor. I too am tired of more German "patrols". I also still like the AK stuff. Leadmen

Here's a quickie log wall I put together. I think it would be cool if they made one.
