WW2 PTO aircraft (1 Viewer)

There's an aluminum version in 1:30:

However, you'd have to create some markings for it.

And the price is a little on the dear-end of the TS-scale, although, IMO, the material might be more interesting than wood.

tHANK YOU FOR THAT...appreciated.....will certainly check it out....cannot do it now as it has taken me ages to find your reply as there are so many posts and I would probably not be able to find this post again to thank you for the info... as a certain firms German version of the Dc is made from a few kilo of wood and cost more than a secondhand car...I shudder to think what the metal version of the Dc would cost...if I forgo a new PC next year I may be on the track to get me a real fair dinkin model Dc3...thank you again...TomB

Found the site and price of aircraft..$600 plus a bit....cannot believe it is so cheap (wood must be expensive).....I think it comes fully assembled...the aircraft illustrated AP455...has a stardboard exit.....not unusual but not as common as the port exit...have flown on Dc3's/C47 's many rears ago...the real c3 and not a converted 47 and it was always a port exit/enter ....Unfortunately as far as I can gather the aircraft is fully assembled....I want a split fuselage ( plastic kit) so I can do up the port side loaded with paras ready to go on the green and the starboard side as a early passenger version with the old style hostess and the dressed up passengers as per the real world....I have a small scale C3 done up with the passenger interior (No figures ) and it looks good.... with a bit of fiddling I could make two C3's outa one....I need a large scale C3...the smallest figures I can make are 48/50 mm high so I need at least a 1/35 ...thanks for the info...TomB

Hi Tom,

There's actually a French outfit that sells a modified AM Ju-52, so they might do the DC-3 as well:

I was thinking the same thing about the door, BTW, although, we'd probably want the model with cargo doors, rather than one of those "hatch-thingies." The models consist of a frame that's covered with sheet-aluminum. I have no idea what the inside of the DC-3 looks like once it's been peeled!{eek3}

Here's the URL in case you want to look around a bit:

Thank you...That is a work of ART....no fake doors or hatches...the real deal interior ....not a solid block....that is an aircraft that draws your attention.......the Aluminum Dc3 is a metal work of ART...nice ..bright and shinny as a real, highly polished airliner....no wonder they painted them that horrid olive drab during the war to stop them looking like a neon sign.... Just over $600 ...I dont believe it....how much work would have gone into that C3...musta been heaps....I would be tempted to cut holes in a plastic mode...but not that one.........I have some thin sheet aluminium I used years ago....I am seriously thinking I may be able to make a Dc3, Port... ...open .. half section .fuselage ....the centre section wont be a problem but the wing well and nose section will be trickey....something like the pictured JU....only fully open to show he compartment behind the cockpit....the small rear compartment used as an toilet(C47) and the entrance into the tail wheel section ...Have been given ref to a 1/30 scale B17..Plastic kit....really looks the goods....decisions...decisions....I want to get the USS Constitution as well....I need a money tree...thanks for the JU...regards TomB

One last post on this DC-3 bidness, and I shall go silent. Apparently, AM also sells decorated examples:

Note that the Hatch is on the left side of this one, but most folks would want the cargo-doors instead (me thinks).

Here's a link to the outfit that sells the model above:

With that, I declare my contribution to The Great TS DC-3 Hunt of 2013 to be concluded! :wink2:

I concur ....thank you for your terrific research...much appreciated....on a finishing note...a Dc3 open view I did years ago and a C47 gun ship from Vietnam with 3 mini guns poking outa the port windows...The Douglas Commercial..must be the most unappreciated aircraft in the world....funny thing about the DC3...a 3/4 view gives a false impression of a squat aircraft when in fact as seen by my models it is long and streamlined... note how all modern jets have simular nose sections to a C3......anyway to finish ( I do rave on about C3 's dont I )....I intend...now...to make am open cut Dc3 as per the AA model...wont be easy as doing a wood model but more interesting....keep an eye open on How To,section of the forum as I will post my effortdc3 c47.jpg at making the nose in a basic wood carving method....thanks again...regards TomB

I have a weakness for the air war over China, pre-WW2 and WW2. Specifically the AVG, which KC have beautifully represented with their P-40B and the Chinese Air Force, which no one has represented. There are all sorts of planes that could be picked from the Chinese AF to produce as they bought aircraft from many countries. I would like to see the Polikarpov series of aircraft, the I-153, I-15, and I-16. I would also love to see Curtiss Hawks, the H-75 with fixed gear and retracting gear, and the Hawk III biplane. There are also the Boeings such as the P-26 and the F4B. I know I'm asking for the world and some really off-the-wall aircraft, but these are all really neat aircraft that made an impact in the skies over China in the late 1930's. Actually, I would take just about anything, like a Republic P-43 Lancer, as long as it has the Chinese Nationalist Sun insignia on the wings. It is mostly forgotten in the west, but China stood alone against Japan for a long time and it would be nice to have some aircraft to represent that stand. -- Al

Looks like a DC-5 to me, 1939 manufacture. I don't know a whole lot about transport aircraft. -- Al
Yep...spot on.....Was way ahead of its time...nose wheel..rear ramp....side loading.....General Mc Arthur used one as personal transport in New Guinea....the BW pic of the aircraft over flying the B17's....years and years ahead of the DHC 4 Carabou which more or less had the same setup....it was more rare than hen's teeth....I do not think they even have a wrecked one...may find one n the New Guinea jungle one day....regards TomB
