Well my very first JJD "Knights of the Sky" order was delivered this morning; ACE-14 Sopwith Camel, ACE-21 Steinhauser's Fokker, ACE-BP2, ACE-GP2, and a small and medium stand. All I can say is WOW! Of all the TS sets I have collected over the years I really think these are now the very favorite of my collection. My wife even agrees with this. Just incredible. I am hooked now and may have to make WWI my main interest of collecting. To say the least I am very pleased . . . . . my only disappointment is that I didn't do this sooner and so many of these fine models are now SOLD OUT. Oh well, that will make the hunt just that much more intersting and rewarding. Some quick photos of my first pair of airplanes.

Also delivered was the British Mark V Female tank which is also very nicely done . . . . . Its going to have to wait for the support infantry before I do anything with it.

Congratulations on the new additions, Mike. You chose well. IMO, the Barker Camel is the best looking of the Camels and the Steinhauser tripe is also one of my favorites. I just like how the dark camo is so well complimented by the personal red and yellow markings. It just pops. Getting the stands and the pilots was a great combination as they really increase the versatility of your aircraft. -- Al

Those just look superb. When we can get our spouses to like our choices, we know John Jenkins had hit it out of the park.

Thanks Al . . . . You realize I blame you as one of the main reasons that I decided to expand my WWI interest :wink2:

You know John Jenkins has a winning range when it makes me think about concentrating more on WWI and less on the ACW {eek3}

When it comes to making models, I think that the other TS manufacturers need to figure out how JJD is doing what it does. Take John out to dinner in HK or London, ply him with a fine meal and spirits, and pick his brains for tips on model building. At least it couldn't hurt to try!^&grin

There was some comment on one of the other forums recently in regard to "highlighting" engraved panel lines on models. My contribution to the exchange was that it was better off omitted than poorly (or clumsily) executed. BTW, Jenkins frequently uses this technique to denote structural demarcations such as that between a wing and an aileron. However, the application is finely done and very subtle. And I'd note that Jenkins' models are molded well enough that there's really no need to accentuate all the panel lines with a wash or inking. Rather, the parts are engraved well enough that they don't need additional embellishment.

Well done JJD and very nice models Mike!:salute::

Well stated and I certainly agree with your observations regarding JJD models . . . . . .

Great choice...oh, and welcome to WW1!!!

Thank you very much. This is my first venture into JJD WWI and so far I am extremely pleased with the few pieces I have acquired. I have been collecting the WB WWI range for a while now, but just the trench sets and the 1917 British Infantry Somme figures.

The JJD Poilu's are exceptional works of art, as well as the St Charmond. For me it's the figures AND the vehicles (whether air or ground) that set each other off (oh, and the flight stands). They add another dimension to the displays. Looks like there is plenty of great stuff in the pipeline!!

Great statement. JJD has not hit a wrong note with any of his lines but the WW1 like is just exceptional. I am especially partial to the French infantry, vehicles, and all the aircraft but the whole line is just brilliant. Love those Whippets and trucks and all those different Tommies, including the ones on the way. The future of the JJD WW1 line is blindingly bright. -- Al
