Since I had the chance for a good look at a wonderful collection of Beau Geste figures, I couldn't help but had to get some for myself ^&grin
The beautiful paint finish on these excellent sculpted Toy Soldiers puts them right among the top of present "glossy style" mfrs.
WWI is the line I will be collecting and below you can see two of my first sets.
The group you see is made by set no. BG270 and BG270ACC, German Schutztruppe, Winter Uniform, South West Africa.
I am very much looking forward to adding to this collection every now and then.

Hi Konrad,

Those are beautiful figures! But, then what else would you expect from the studio of Ana Donzino? I agree that the Beau Geste is among the top "glossy style" manufacturers. As I have said many times, I simply cannot get enough of Ana's figures!

I am also very pleased you have chosen the WWI line to collect. If I was not so captivated by the BG Delhi Durbar line, I would be adding Ana's WWI figures to my collect as often as my budget would allow.

Collecting Beau Geste figures is an adventure for the individual collector. The BG style of glossy finish almost makes the figures glow in the dark. The sculpting and painting are superior and there are many, many sets of units, regiments, etc. that are seldom seen in toy soldier circles.

My congratulations for the acquisition of a couple of outstanding sets. And,...now that yoiu have experienced the Beau Geste figures first hand, enjoy the adventure!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Those are some beautiful figures, as are all of BG's figures. Great choice of subject too. I have my eye on some of BG's WW1 sets, as well. -- Al

From one of the uniform books I have, the first two pictures here show a French Chasseur Alpins, 1914 on the left and 1916 on the right.
The next three pictures are some sample shots to show how Beau Geste depicted the French Alpine Light Infantry in their set #225.
A nice group of figures in that set :wink2: :smile2:

Great set. One of the ones I would like to have. These troops are French elites and during WW1 were especially famous for the battles at the Hartmanswillerkopf in the Vosges mountains during January-April 1915. These were particularly vicious battles and flared up constantly throughout the war. Each side suffered about 30,000 casualties in the fighting for this bit of real estate during the war. -- Al

Thanks for the additional info, Al.
You should have a look at Treefrog's sales page and their for the Beau Geste sets, a lot of them currently offered for only $99.00 instead of the usual $156.00.
Unfortunately there are only a few WWI sets left :wink2: :smile2:

I have been keeping an eye on those sets, Konrad, but like with everything else, timing is everything and I haven't been able to get the planets to align.:( But I am going to get some of those French WW1 sets offered in the regular catalog if it's the last thing I ever do.:wink2: -- Al

Treefrog Treasures has a flexible layaway plan Al :wink2:

Thanks for the comments, everyone.
Hi Al, here are some more French troops.
This time it is BG162 French Navy Fusiliers, WWI.
A few pictures are attached to show these fine figures.

Congrats on another fine set of BG figures, Konrad. They are just so well finished, each and every figure. -- Al

Who bought the Russo Japanese Cavalry sets? I've been eyeing those for years. When Treefrog put them on sale, I didn't have the chance to buy them because I'm 5-hours behind central standard time. I'm thinking Kogu, Polar Bear or UCLA1967 may have bought them.

It wasn't me although I have wanted them for a long time too. UCLA67 does not collect Beau Geste.

Write Julie: julie@treefrogtreasures.com and have her order what you want from Ana. I think there is a good chance that way but at full price, of course.

No, not me.
Trying to stay strictly in the WWI line only.

Randy & Konrad, thanks for the quick response. I thought I saw UCLA1967 (Mike) post that he bought Beau Geste because they were on sale. I'm a WWII collector, so I don't want to pay full price for the sets. I thought they were real handsome sets and worth buying at the sales price. Well let see if Mike sees this post.

You are correct. UCLA1967 did buy a number of Beau Geste sets due to the sale, but I don't think any cavalry sets were included.

Mike must have changed his mind since he told me he had sold all his BG sets and was concentrating on Hiriart. The main reason was a preference for the smaller scale of the Hiriart figures. I believe Mike's on the road so not sure when he will check in.

You can buy one figure at a time from Ana if that helps. A mounted figure is $83.

those are great sets. I have the officer and the bugler. I was enjoying looking at these and realized they are 2 of the best all around figures i own and thats out of thousands. So the next nite i had to check them out again. Just beautiful so i go to work to get on the computer to order the two troopers and to my horror they were gone. I will have to call and see if i can order them
