YANKEES Clinch AL East! (2 Viewers)

John, I wrote my last post on this thread with you in mind. I am happy you saw it for the humor. I am conflicted as I too am a Yankee's fan. Have been since the middle 50's. This is the team I learned baseball from http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teamstats/roster.php?y=1955&t=NYA
My grandfather and I would watch every game CBS would broadcast and we could see in South Dakota. Great team, always has been, dispite George.:)

George, George, George . . . hope you didn't put any money on the twinkies tonight.;):p

Oh, and be careful what you wish for. The Angels have the best manager in baseball, and players who know how to produce runs with their legs. The last time I looked, the only catchers with worse arms than Posado in the majors . . . both play for your team.

Ha! I grew up watching the Yankee's, I love them!

"The Boss" has taken a lot of heat over the years, but if you read about him

he always took care of his loyal players, Billy Martin was on salary when he

died. Old George just wants to Win, and he is willing to put his wallet where

his mouth is!:D

I respect that!:D

Nope, have never gambled on sports, takes all the fun out of it.

I said CC was your best pitcher (looked a little shaky in the first few innings) and he won the game tonight.

Let's see what the rest of your staff does.

Hell, even Payfraud, ie, "Mr April" got two RBI's tonight.

Regarding the Angels, they've played that same National League one run at at time style the last three times they faced the Red Sox in the playoffs; in 2004, 2007 and 2008.

End result was three series victories by the Red Sox, three trips to the ALCS and two World Series Championships.

The Angels don't scare me.

Come on Louis, do your homework, it's not that difficult...........;)

Great point John; if the club is broken, just throw a dump truck full of money at the problem and bingo, problem solved and it's on another World Series title.

That worked in 2001, right?

Or was it 2003?

No?

How about 2004?

No?

How about 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008?

No?

On second thought.........:D

Heck yeah it worked 4th Hussar!!!! The Yankees Rock! Even A-rod looked like a Yankee!!! He got a couple of good hits and is beginning to earn his stripes!

Now if Anaheim can get their act together and deal with Boston for a change maybe I'll be able to enjoy the rest of the month!

Dave

Boston will go down maybe not right away but this month. Then it is NYY all the way..........................

Your pitching staff was anchored by a healthy Beckett in those earlier series, and he won 2 of the 3 games you needed in both. This year Beckett has health issues. Without a healthy Beckett (one of the all time great post-season pitchers) you might find the Angels a bit harder to beat.

And as far as doing your homework, the Yankees have beat up the Twinkees in every post-season series they've played . . . sounds like you get detention as well.

Well at least he tries!:) He isn't happy comming in 2nd or 3rd. He isn't happy because you won last year, or 2 years ago. He pays big $$$ to his players and managers.....and he expects a WS every year.:D

Look at Bobby Cox here in Atlanta, he won a WS and he will be manager for life! When JT got stale up in NY I knew "The Boss" would only take it for so long then give him the boot.......and I agreed with him!:D

2nd place is great.....for the other guy!:)

My favorite Coach/Manager.......Vince L

Last shot is a photo of my "Nanny" when I was little growing up in Lyndhurst NJ.

Well, let's see George:

It worked in 1977 and 1978 (Catfish Hunter, Reggie Jackson, Sparky Lyle, Goose Gossage).

And it worked in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000 (David Cone, David Wells, Orlando Hernandez, Dwight Gooden, Daryll Strawberry).

And gee, it pretty much worked in 2001 (Mike Mussina) - if Mariano Rivera doesn't commit an error on a double play ball back to the mound.

And, oh by the way, it worked pretty darn well for your team in 2004 and 2007 - when they had what, the second or third biggest payroll in the league, right behind the Yankees (Beckett, Big Poppy, Mr. Bloody Sock, your Japanese pitchers).

If my team's drought in World Series titles reaches 10 years (or 75+ years), maybe I'll complain . . . but since we have 26 titles, and last won 9 years ago, and have won 2 pennants since, I'm not going to get stressed about it. I'll leave that to fans of teams like the Cubs . . .

Yep, it sure did work all of those times Louis.

2001 "almost" doesn't count, just like "almost" 1986 did not count for us.

After what happened in 2001 on 9/11 in New York, that series was the one and only time I routed for the Yankees.

And Mo is a class act, met him afew times, a true gentleman and a funny SOB as well. Met Jeter too and ARod, both of them are good guys too, had a ball with the three of them back in 2004 during the ALCS in Boston one night............great guys.

The Red Sox generate a ton of dough and are in the same division as the evil empire, so naturally they spend money to be competitive, unlike most of the other teams who don't spend .05 cents on their teams and expect the fans to come out year after year.

You and every Yankee fan should thank George for buying the team and breathing life back into the franchise; from the mid to late 60's to the early to mid 70's, they were pathetic, a sad sack bunch of losers.

George bought the team, free agency began, he starting writing checks and the rest is history.

And George is a wonderful human being too; my Dad is good friends with Mike Andrews, the chairman of The Jimmy Fund, an organization that funds cancer research and research concerning cancer in children and every year, they hold a fund raiser and George has been more than generous with his money, yet he never says a word about it and no one mentions it, it's very hush hush.

George is and always will be aces in my book.

I have a Yankee fan since before Seattle had a major league team............kind of hard to change my stripes at this late stage in life

Seattle had their first team quite awhile ago, the Pilots, remember them? Now it's the Mariners in a beautiful ballpark.

Too bad the team stinks..........

Don't know about that; they made some strides this year and finished above 500. They also have a good new manager.

Seattle's first team that I recall was the Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League which was before MLB came west. The Pilots lasted one year and were hijacked to the Midwest. regardless I have been a Yankees fan since the 50s cause they are the best in baseball

4th Hussar I could not have said it better! The Yankees Rock.

Great game by Lester tonight. Go Anaheim.

Dave

I am also a NYY fan. This came about when I was a youngster of about 7 or 8. My first conscious memories of baseball revolve around the 60 WS and Mazeroski's HR but especially the summer of 61 when the M&M boys were all over the sports pages. My friends and I spent the summer following the exploits of this great pair and their team. I have always been a NYY follower even though I have followed others (Baltimore, Washington) through the years. I always root for the best franchise in sports history, evil or not. Looking back, I kinda wish Mattingly and Mussina had held on one more year at the end of their careers. Hoping for a NYY vs. Dodgers WS. -- lancer

In all honesty, guys, lets not get ahead of ourselves. Winning the 1st game of a series doesn't mean much. The Yanks need to put it to the twins tonight, and the Red Sox aren't in any trouble if they can win tonight with Beckett.

A.J. Burnett has no playoff experience, whatsoever. However, with the Yanks winning game 1, and Molina behind the dish, he is facing a lot less pressure than he could have faced. If he pitches well tonight, and the Yanks win, they can go far into this playoff, as Sabathia got the monkey off his back in game 1, and Pettitte is one of the winningest pitchers in post-season history.

I know Beckett has been hurt this season, but ole Curt "Bloody Sock" Schilling managed to win some big playoff games with an injury, and Beckett is the same type of playoff tested ace.

I still see this coming down to a rematch of 2004 in for the pennant.
