Ebay - ordered Victorian Fire Engine and Crew from Steadfast off ebay seller. Comes in original box, so you figure, ok, should be packed well............................

So, here is how the brilliance in this packing went, actually 2 original boxes. Engine box - on bottom is the fire wagon, on top is 2 heavy solid horses. Limited bubble, not enough to round out the box or foam or anything. Result - deformed, broken engine, pieces, bends, breakage, and wheels are broken or hanging by a thread. Second Box crew - large box, plenty of foam and bubble..................not one figure wrapped. Thrown in a pile so broken, speckled crew.

Honestly, it is maddening how literally stupid some people are. I hate to be crass but mother of God, how do you not realize they need to be wrapped when all packaging is present? I mean literally how hard is this.

Long story short, I Hate using it, but using Ebay's return process as we speak. I just can't take this idiocy, the pictures are actually kind, the damage in hand is worse.

You got BS there. Happens to everyone, I think.

Any packing tips? That's a good forum issue.

Hi Paddy, congrats on the Vax.

Packing tips - common sense should rule the day supplemented by bubble wrap, foam, peanuts, etc. Time and care which seems hard to come by nowadays!

Tom

what an utter waste of a very nice set of pieces for your collection...
and yes...no other recourse but to return and demand a refund...
poor judgement in packing on your seller's part...
what a shame...

It unfortunately happens more than one would think. It is a shame, completely avoidable in most cases. Case in point, I just had an Aeroart diorama land to me with NO damage, not one piece or fleck out of place. Basically a seller took due care in packing and the results show.

What a shame about the damage Tom, a prime example of the two things that are sorely missing in nearly aspect of life nowadays ... good judgement and common sense.

Sorry for your experience. I can relate unfortunately...I call this the "maracas" effect: heavy weight object not secured in a box. Basic physics...

Tom, It's an art to me and if anyone would like to order well packaged and cared for sets from me, I have 39 K&C auctions ending tomorrow (Sunday) I make custom foam when needed as well. The real secret is that once packed you better not hear or feel any movement within whatsoever...and rubber bands or bubble wrapped and taped lids are an absolute must!

I love this post, definitely gave me a chuckle!
Thanks

End result - seller refunds 1 complete. Ok. Second one I get an email from this person saying they are charging a restock fee due to damage.......................I call ebay - full refund delivered in 30 seconds. What a hassle, needless to say, this ebayer made the list.

eBay has more bull than the 1st Roman Legion.
But choices are few...
Paddy

If you sell quality merchandise at reasonable prices, communicate openly and honestly with potential buyers, treat others the way you'd want to be treated and have a basic understanding of how to properly pack and ship merchandise, Ebay is a literally a license to print money.

A matter of fact; that also describes the toy soldier business.

Been at this 27 years and things have never been better.

I had ordered from a big dealer (well advertised) who had somethings I noticed on ebay. Because of the global shippng programs and etc, duties etc i contacted the dealer direct, explained and asked for a revised shipping plan, and made the deal outside of ebay. (USPS)
one two figure set arrived broken, in tow places! and the other boxes were rubbed. no excuses.
I would hazard that the broken set were a return. fortunaltley I am handy with m modelling supplies. I contacted the dealer an did not get a response.
(not George btw).

If i had stuck with ebay, I would have had more recourse.

ugly andventures in collecting.- this was a 500us dollar order if i recall.!!~

I'm sorry for your experience.

Global shipping is expensive, don't get me wrong, but it protects both the buyer and the seller 100% if there are any damages or if the package gets lost.

Outside of that, I feel for collectors when something arrives damaged, I'm sure it's deflating when something is damaged upon arrival.

In your case, not to speak for another dealer, but if you were kind enough to offer to keep the items and repair them, I would have worked something out on a future purchase to compensate you for your time and trouble.

Again, I am sorry for your issue.
