I see alot of lines out in the Zulu war which I would like to start collecting but would like to stay with one line. I have looked at the new Britians line, Frontline I know Conte is coming out with one and was wondering if K@C is going to have one. Any comments on what other people like? Quality price painting etc opinions wanted! Thanks Joel

K&C won't be making ZW figures any time soon, They said that after some questions on the forum.

Conte will make them but the question is; when. I wouldn't wait for them letting other figures pass.

For the rest it's just a matter of taste. See my signature for some honest advice on what to buy;)

Good afternoon joel,

As Joachim brought up it's doubtful if K & C will venture into the Zulu War, Andy commented that it's been overdown but it's yet to be seen.

Joachim's advice is stated in his signiture and is a good choice giving you the choice of both Matte and Gloss which is an excellent choice based on what's currently being offered and what we have to look forward to in the coming months and let's not forget Model Zone

Conte is giving us a choice of both metal and plastics as he returns to the period with the metals being also offered in matte and gloss along with multi purpose plasic Zulu Warrior figures and hopefully the same with the 24th in plastic. Don't be surpised if you see the availability of the first of the metal figures within the next 60 to 90 days. From what's been featured by Joe Baker on the Conte Site we've got another excellent choice for us who collect the period.

Frontline provides us with a very nice line and selection of figures and sets and it's a matter of choice as to what sets you want add from the selection available.

If your considering both matte and gloss you do not want to pass on what Little Legion is offering of the period in gloss. Mike Norris is providing an excellent choice of figures and sets covering the Zulu War and they speak for themselves.

I currently have figures and sets from all of the above and will continue to add selected figures and set of the above when and if I can afford to.

Joel once you've made your choice I will be one of the first if not the first to welcom you to "The Land of The Zulus".....the Lt.

Mr

Go with Little Legion out of the UK. Mike also customizes his figures to suit several units (90th,NMP, Natal Carbineers NNH, FLH, etc.) I just love them. Also take a dive into the Trophy of Wales collections if you can find them.

Mike

Mr

Here is some Little Legion Mounted and dismounted (mix of Buller's guys and some Native Horse about to topple the left side of my display case. Mike

I can see from your first posting and photos where you got the handle 1879fanatic and nice photos of both Little Legion and Trophy and welcome on board. It's sad to see that Len Taylor's retired but he deserves a well earn rest and it's nice to see Mike Norris taking over where Len left off with Little Legion he's done an outstanding job with his Zulu Series. Looking forward to seeing more photos of you collection. I'd welcome you to the Land of The Zulus but you've already been there but your still more than welcomed... The Lt.

Thanks, Lt.

I enjoy your photos and advice. Now, if I could sell off the wife and kids, I'd have more time (and money). I noticed you have a bunch of Conte plastic Zulu fodder. Those guys were the first figures I started out with in my hopes of making a giant RD diorama. I then got into the LL, Trophy and just love it.
My passion for the AZW and Victorian type guys is so great that I got a Trophy mounted Napoleanic General by accident and gave him to my 6-year old to play with! Keep up the great Hobby!
Mike

Welcome
It is always good to have a Trophy or Little Legion fan around.

Joel,

Also keep in mind the different battles and situations your Zulu War figures might be in. Little Legion and Trophy both have great mounted figures and the 17th Lancers (for example) are great for a Ulundi rout. But where else can you see what Chelmsford saw on his fateful return to Isandlwhana? Trophy captured this (better than I could) with drummer boy leaning on his drum, the 24th officer has a broken revolver next to him that you can't see and even the one booted casualty in the foreground. I would saw collect what makes you happy!

And let's not forget Chelmsford first siting of Isandlwana.

That's right Lt.... How did you get Chelmord on a black horse? Mine is grey! I think we should post some more extraordinary set-ups besides the usual 24th guys! Do you have any Buffalo Border Guard?
Mike

Mike

I had him mounted on Creadlock's horse when I took the photo and didn't realize it at the time. Haven't got the Buffalo Border Gaurd but do have The 1st Dargoon Gaurds.

Lt. I have the other half of the KDG! And for Joel to become further confused in his quest to find a sole manufacturer to collect, here's some more LL and Trophy. This scene most assuredly did not happen with Trophy's Col. Buller of the Wood's Column appearing bother at the entrance of Gonnie Bromhead on his LL stead! Mike.

Lt.
(and Joel). How about some LL Newcastle Mounted Rifles dismounted and firing away at a Trophy Zulu (about to be) casualty. Noted with the NMR is the one reloading has a Swinburne breech loader. Unfortunately, my LL variants in dismounted 24th MI and Durban Mounted Rifles use the same gun, not historically correct, I believe.

!879,

The only Trophy figure I have from Trophy's Durnford's Last Stand is Durnford whose joined by LL Natal Mounted Police along with members of The Natal Native Horse and members of the 1/24th being swamped my both LL and Trophy Zulu Warriors.

Wonderful!!!
I really enjoy the 24th straddling one Zulu while another sets to wash his spear! Is that the LL trio? Mike

Lt.
One more thing. I believe you have the orientation of Isandlhwana spot on to where Durnford 's Last stand was. What a joy to see! Mike

Visit the Trophy thread under Glossy for more pictures.
