Things that I really like (2 Viewers)

I think you have to view these events through the eyes of others and not just ourselves. There are people who rightly or wrongly have a certain view about Trump. Primarily that he wants to be a dictator. The country is polarized over him. An event like a military parade plays directly into that narrative. It might very well have been harmless in other times but not now. This happened on Trump's birthday adding fuel to that fire. It was unnecessary and counterproductive in my opinion even if well intended. It provokes half the country. It will be used and debated for weeks or months distracting from very real problems like the national debt which is growing even under the Republicans who ran on a platform of reducing spending.
It's funny but a lot of people think others want to destroy democracy, not Trump. I'm sick of everyone complaining about everything Trump does but it's ok if foreigners walk across our border use millions of US taxpayers money then riot and burn down American property and burn the American flag. If I had my way every one of them would be out of the country and their American lapdogs with them. Let me be a little clearer on this. I have sympathy for ones who truly came here fore a better life but we aren't talking about a few but 10-20 million with many in criminal activity and of course many could be terrorists. These have got to go.

The copyright has apparently expired on Popeye allowing us to get the horror rendition of "Popeye's Revenge" on Tubi. Is it bad? Of course. But in the good way of the 80s horror films. Lots of babes in hot tubs etc. Almost as entertaining as the movie is reading the reviews of disappointed viewers who apparently expected "Citizen Kane" instead of a Popeye themed horror film.

I was disappointed with the parade coverage. I thought it would be covered like the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. What units are coming up, describing the armor etc. All I saw were snippets of coverage. Congrats to the army for defending the constitution and our country.
No Confederate units marching in the parade? Afterall, they were fighting for "states rights" as we all know, what a missed opportunity, gee whiz.

Quite a turnout too; expected number was 230,000 to 250,000, they were only off by a zero.

It was a nice thought, would have been nice to see actual WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc etc vets included as well..................freedom is not free, thousands of kids gave up their tomorrows to give us our todays, the "no kings" protests on the same day was beyond classless, but what else would you expect from the left, go ahead and keep doing things to further this nations' divide while you're at it.

They did do a nice job on the Union regiments section. End of day, as much as I admire some of the Generals of the Confederacy for their military prowess and in some cases personality, modern actions by hate groups have completely obliterated those notions in the "common eye of an everyday citizen" I have chalked that up to the sins of the past are paid by the current generation. No matter how much shared history or contributions people like Robert E. Lee made to society both before and after the war, modern history has made him a pariah. (rightly or wrongly depending on your viewpoint). I do wish his contributions (he in particular) of warfare and battle formations (taught at West Point) are recognized in some way.

Once the KKK and other hate groups adopted the Confederate battle flag as they symbol, it was game over.

Celebration of our Army. Nice to see that. Good historical lesson also and well done. And to make sure the facts are right, the birthday of our Army was planned regardless of the current sitting President. I love how the media tries to tie his birthday to a celebration of our Army, ie the reason we are all free today.

My late Grandfather and WW2 veteran I am sure was smiling from above.

Don't let the facts get in the way of people trying to make something out of nothing.

When you tell certain people that this was planned regardless of who the current sitting president was, you get that deer in headlights look back.

Answer. Certain kook aid is drunk and absorbed regardless of facts. Then it is repeated ad nauseum on certain networks on auto repeat, then it is a bonafide fact………. This is true for all pushed agenda propaganda. Now, that said IMO, in this case it borders on disgraceful. For just one day and a few hours, the Country should be allowed a “win”.

Certain Confederates were involved in the formation of such groups and participated in many atrocities after the war. Even at Gettysburg, there were incidents of free blacks being kidnapped and taken back into slavery. Putting that aside, the Confederates were also traitors to the US. Their names should be the last ones associated with our military. Trump's folks were clever to rename them after soldiers who had the same names rather than revert to the original Confederates. Maybe that's a distinction that doesn't make much difference but I'm glad their names were removed.

Finally settling old scores with Iran. Fifty years after Jimmy Carter blew it with the hostages. Hopefully there are no more half measures in ridding the world of a terrorist regime. There is now a small window of opportunity for the modern people of Iran to self-govern and become a part of civilization rather than being ruled by a minority of religious fanatics bent on the destruction of Israel and the US. The bunker busters need to be used on the nuclear program before the calls for cease fire to begin. Trump needs to show the backbone that every president dating back to Carter lacked. I'm not calling for another endless war but a couple of weeks of intense strikes that put an end to the nuclear capabilities and government of Iran.

I think that is a broad brush. Were we traitors to the British Empire? We won, big difference in the way it was written! I am not advocating this one way or the other, just pointing out it is a little bit complicated, and I don't ever think it will be agreed upon. I had relatives on both side, some from the same family, hence true Maryland roots. After the war, according to family tree and history, they didn't consider one or the other traitors. The family motored on and evolved. The Civil War is a very complicated topic in my opinion. The history has been written, changed, questioned, etc over time. I am not sure what the correct way to look at it is. I tend to stick to the battlefield facts as they are in most cases far less controversial. Some of the maneuvers on both sides are studied to this day.

I agree and from what I am reading, it certainly seems like we are taking this posture. Of course, you already have the usual chorus of congressional idiots resolution ing the declaration of war articles............

I wasn't keen on removing Confederate names of our army bases. I always thought these names could be a teachable moment of history. When Lee surrendered to Grant, Grant wanted to have the confederate states be a part of the union without antagonizing these states. For instance, Lee was allowed to keep his sword. Perhaps naming army bases after confederate generals was part of this resurrection of our nation. This is my recollection. I'm not an expert on history like many on this Forum.

Honestly, I agree. But I will say what poisoned the well was the monuments that were erected for reasons of segregation and there were a good number of them (mainly 1920-1960). Unfortunately, every monument became looked at in that light. Ridiculous, but unfortunately, the ultra woke won out on that figurative fight. End of day, to me it is a personal feeling for which I am not going to apologize for. I really don't mean this to sound like a jerk, but I tend to worry about me and my family on personal issues and if someone else doesn't like it, I don't let it affect me. Same reason I still wear my original Lynyrd Skynyrd shirts on my own time, if it offends someone, then they don't have much else going on in life! (IMO). As I said before, sometimes you have to look and be satisfied at life through your own lenses, you only get one spin around this universe and I am not going to let someone else dictate it for me, may sound arrogant to some, prudent to others.

I'm pretty sure the wife of the owner of Bryant farm was kidnapped and taken back into slavery, not 100% sure, I'd have to fact check that.

The reversing of the base names by using similar people is pathetic and an insult to our history and overall intelligence.

Even worse the kidnapped blacks in many cases were freemen who had never been slaves. And Lee certainly knew about this atrocity.

Good to see that the Stanley Cup is staying in the U-S-A yet another year. Florida dominated those last two games. Great to see those Edmonton fans standing outside their igloos while they choked away the series. Hard to believe but the last time a Canadian team won the Cup was 1993.
