GD IT!!!!!! That is the one I want! Good find,

TD

PS, I have the RAJ and the Siege Gun set.

Good find, I am jealous.

Tom

Nice pic and figures as always Martyn! ;)

Those soldiers must be enjoying the ride. I looks to me that a least the three facing the camera all have smiles on their faces.

To my eye, Trophy would not have been my first guess on trying to identify the maker of this set. There's just something different looking about it.

Martyn, do you happen to know if this set was made earlier or latter on?

Chuck

The pair of pictures below were kindly posted by Jeff (aujj65) in his thread on the recent London Show (27th June 2009).

The top picture shows a Trophy Elephant Battery and the bottom picture shows a Trophy Zoo Elephant.

Check out the price tag of the zoo elephant.

Cheers, Raymond.

:)

Please tell me that price is not £310.00 :eek::eek:

Hi Scott,

Yes, 310 Pounds Sterling. Not for the faint hearted.

Jeff noted the price of the Elephant Battery in his post.

It is well worth viewing more of Jeff's excellent pictures of the London show in his thread.

Cheers, Raymond.

Hi Chuck

Glad you like it. The set appears in the 1991 catalogue then disappears with all the other Indian Mutiny sets:( I believe Len Taylor produced a very limited rerun of the sets about 1999/2000, but only a handfull appeared on the market.

I can find reference to 8 Indian Mutiny sets and so far I have found 2;)

The complete listing is as follows

M1 91ST REGIMENT OF FOOT
M2 52ND REGIMENT OF FOOT
M3 BENGAL SEPOY MUTINEERS
M4 24TH REGIMENT OF FOOT
ME1 ELEPHANT DRAWN SEIGE GUN---------FOUND
ME2 OXEN DRAWN SUPPLY WAGON
ME3 ELEPHANT TROOP CARRIER------------FOUND
ME4 OXEN DRAWN WATER CART

Cheers

Hello Martyn,

You are absolutely right. This applies to other splendid Trophy sets by Len Taylor as well.

Let's face it. We shall not see the masterly work of Len Taylor again.

His fine sets are true collector's items which possess a unique charm and character.

I tender no apologies for making steep priced purchases for some of his magnificent sets.

That said, I shall continue my worldwide search for his work which has seen mixed moments of sheer joy and utter frustration.

Cheers, Raymond.

:)

Trophy Zoo Elephant I believe is very very rare. That is the only one I have ever seen.

As indicated here, the Battery Elephant is always going to be high b/c of 2 elephants. I have seen it often, just expensive.

The troop carrier appears and is reasonable, but I have yet to get it!!

The Seige gun is more rare and very cool, I got lucky on that one awhile ago.

Same for the Raj, again I got lucky.

I believe there are also some Oxen out there too pulling carts, etc. They are very nice and costly too!

Hi Raymond

I agree with all you say, if I see a set from any of the periods I collect I tend to "grab it".

I've added the Indian Mutiny to the list because of the great pictures of other manufacturer Elephant related sets appearing on the Forum, this way I have added Elephants to my collection and kept them Trophy;)

Cheers

Hi Tom

I have several Oxen sets from both the AZW and Boer War, they are all great.

I agree with Martyn and Raymond, If I see an item I want, I will buy it even if I spend alittle more than I wanted to spend. Paying a little more for the item is better than sitting at home lementing the fact you did not buy that item.

I have left items sitting on the table many times in the past and regreting that action later when I am home.

I suspect many collectors also have had this regret.

In 1997 after getting home from my honeymoon a bookdealer in town phoned me to say she had a First edition of Norris Newman's with the British in Zululand. The price at the time 400 USD. I like an idiot said no. I mean what a fool. I still do not have that book in my library and on ABE now it goese for about 3000 USD. So be warned.
If it comes your way then do not procastinate.

Wow Damian,

I have a reprint of that book and have read it several times to find a 1st would be an amazing find! If you are able you should at least get the reprint that came out in the early 1990s and fill the hole in the collection. Its really worth it.
