Ws043 question and possibly other k & c (1 Viewer)

I had bought "the last tiger" at a toy show back in the day when if was still being made. Well recently I had a casualty of war and a picture frame in my toy room fell and broke part of my tank. So recently I bought one to replace it, and I got it in today but it is different then my old one. My original one came in a white box with a green seal, it also has a folded up map right by the one hatch on top (the hatch that is movable), and it is very heavy. The one I just got came in a newer box (the one with all the pictures on it), it has no map, and it is much lighter then my old one. They both have a gold plate underneith, last tiger made 2002. Also the old one's movable hatch was packaged off the tank and the new one's is not. Can anyone tell me why these two tanks are clearly different but made the same year.

Can you post photos of the old broken one and the new one you received to see what you have.
 
No, I think he's referring to WS 43. Not sure of the retirement date on WS 25 but WS 15 was long gone by then. I know the WS 43 came in a white box because tanks used to come in that box; I have several of those boxes.

WS043 has a plaque underneath with the date 2002 on it - but the hatch covers don't move. Have you ever seen WS025? - I have not.

Yes, I have one but don't know if the covers move. Will have to take a look.

K&C made several runs of the WS43 and that resulted in the different packaging and the differences in the two models that you pointed out. K&C has done this on several figure sets as well. Hope this helps. All the best, Lawrence
 
With regards to the weight, I've got a WS47 and WS70. Effectively the same model, different paint job. The winter Tiger is significantly lighter than the Wittman Tiger. I guess it's just down to different mixes of polystone.
 
I have one of the earlier ones mentioned by Larry and it is indeed heavy; I believe only the WS 59 Jag is heavier. Perhaps Larry knows but I'm assuming that the differences are due to the exhaustion of the old as a large number were made of WS 43, approximately 2,000, according to what I think Andy said a few years ago.
Interestingly, I recently had a buyer return a WS 38 because there were size differences in the one he already owned and the one I sold him (smaller than his).
 
All I know is that one version came with a map in front of the commanders hatch an one version had no map. I was told by someone that the version without the map was an earlier, rarer, version. Don't know if that is true. -- lancer

So, I guess my next question is, do any of you think that anyone cares that there are differences, meaning would someone pay more for one then the other?

O, and also, the last picture I have is the detachable hatch, from my original one. It was packaged separated, and the newer one was not

In answer to your question, the answer is yes. In any collectibles, variations may be worth more. For example, there are two types of DD 22, the Patton Command Car; one where the wheels move and the other where they don't. The latter is worth more.

So now I'd like some opinions... I bought the new one to replace my damaged one thinking they were the same, and I was going to sell the damaged one on eBay. But now that I have 2 different Last Wittman Tigers. If you were in my shoes what would do?
 
I have the one without the map. and I checked again - the hatch cover does swing. But I'm not clear as to witch one was the first vwersion.

Also for the Patton model - I have the one where the wheels move. What is the difference in value for each of these 2 pairs of vehicles. Which is the original and which is the variation and which one was there fewer made.

And is there any difference. I doubt if most people would know these differences existed - I certainly did not.

But now sitting here thinking about it, I doubt it really matters, because you don't see them on eBay, stores, ect, advertised as with map/ without map, new box/ old box, moving wheels/ non-moving wheels. Maybe it matters to the extreme collector.... but not the majority of us.

With the WS43 Tiger, the reason for the different versions of the same vehicle are the result of production issues. Only a certain amount can be produced from a mould after which it becomes unusable, and so a second mould was produced with the different features. The white box is the older version. Most collectors are not aware of these differences. In fact, there are other instances of changes in other figure sets as well. For example, WS-05, 08 and 12 had bases that originally were gray. Later versions had a different base as well as differences in the paint scheme of uniforms and helmets. The Stug set WS-14 originally had a smaller, slimmer figure which was replaced by a different larger figure. I will no longer bore you with further examples, but there are a few other quirks that only us compulsive obsessive types know and care about.:D
