Is it just me or is there a slight change in mood going on in the K&C thread lately. Not alot of new things being discussed and not alot of the old timers getting involved. Are we all just busy doing other things or is this the norm with toy soldier collecting. I no for one I have slowed right down and though I still read and play around with making little things I am just feeling alittle stale. Maybe this is a world wide thing as I am not feeling the enthusiasm on the forum as when I first joined. What do you guys think are we in a bit of a slump or is there just too much out there to try to keep up with that we just don't care any more. Confused Simmo.

Yes Simmo I've noticed this too.It does seem very quiet around here right now,it does happen now and again so maybe it will come round again.I myself have been looking lately at what I want to collect how much I can spend and for how long, sometimes a break is as good as a rest and every now and again I like to take a step back and think about things.

Hopefully a bit more of a Buzz will return here soon, but things change and sometimes forum members move on to other things and don't return.

Rob

Simmo,

I thought I was the only one thinking that..... but I'm glad you have raised it :)

I've not been taking it easy, quite to contrary, I'm up to by eyeballs in painting... got loads of figures lined up to paint for other collectors and about a year's worth for myself....

All I need to do is quit the 'day job' and concentrate on having 'fun in the shed' instead of going to work for money..... but that raises another point of interest. All I need to to do is convince my wife to keep working for the next 3 years, and we can live off her wage... them she can retire too.... what chances do you think I have ????

Anyway, I'll be off the scene for a month or 2 soon, going to see the Gallipoli Battlefield, then onto the London Toy Soldier Show at the end of June, and over to France and Belgium. We will be visiting our reltive and friends as well as museums and galleries, and of course Toy Soldier Shops..... hope I'm not overloaded with lead on the way back :)

So there is my 2 Bob's worth.....

Anyone else care to comment???

John

This same topic was raised a couple of years back, and to paraphrase something Brad said at the time, 'Tis the nature of forums'.
People come and go, there's always fresh blood not only moving in to the hobby, but in terms of contributing actively on the forum.

Re the old timers, I suspect it's the same with al members, you have dryer spells, and then get back in to it. All things sort themselves out in the mix.

It's good to see I am not the only one thinking this. When has Andy from K&C got on to exchange views lately or just even start a thread. That is what really got me into K&C in the first place was the commander in chief giving his Two cents worth .Sure he coped abit of fire at times but he sure did fire back with a full load . So maybe we are all a bit gun shy and maybe we need a good old kick start. I am sure up for it as I really enjoyed the friends and not so friends just giving there opinion and adding there suggestions.Simmo.

Yes Rob your right of course but it seems dead dog boring now.If you leave we all may as well just through it in and count the sheep .Simmo.

:D

Simmo, the collecting bug is in my veins mate,I'll never really stop;).I'm like one of those big, old style pc monitors, difficult to get rid of!;)

Dead dog boring. Love it. :D
Kind of apt though..even Rob is quiet! At leats there's been some controversy on the First legion thread to keep us going.

I think the K&C section needs more pix posted, more dios, more reviews of new or old items, more jokes and messing around. :)

Its not what my missus says, she'd love me to be quiet;).Right,I've posted the monthly Dispatch question,so join in guys and lets get the buzz backk!

Rob

Plenty of action going on in the flanks of the forum:D

But yes Simmo you are right the K&C board has been somewhat in the doldrums for a month or so-evident in just browsing the first page of threads and seeing how many of them have generated single number replies to the OP.

I mentioned this sometime ago that a darn good topic kicks off only to quickly peter out after a handful of replies. As usual I got shot down by some guys so I skedaddled and kept any future comments to myself:(

The change of mood I've noticed is the tendency of threads in certain areas to degenerate into petty squabbling, which disgusts me to no end.

As a result, I'm thinking about cutting back my participation here. Not going away, just cutting back. The lack of harmony is quite bothersome.

I agree. Its spoilt a few threads of late.

So true Brad.....It just gets old quickly....The controversy and attacks especially in regards to First Legion is getting disgusting.....

A perfect example of what I'm talking about. My last post on the subject.

I love the forum and really enjoy reading other collectors thoughts on the many different aspects of this hobby. What I don't enjoy is the infintile "my soldier is better than your soldier" crap that has exploded so often in these threads. There are so many great things going on in this hobby right now, I find it incredible that so many things seem to upset people and that there seems to be a never ending stream of things they want to complain about. What the heck is there to complain about? This is a hobby, a sideline for most, a business for others, but hopefully fun for all. When it gets so serious that war is about to break out, it's time to find something else to do. I, like others here, opt not to add my two cents or even read the tripe that occurs, but the bad feelings still exsist and this can cut down on the exchange of views and ideas. No one wants to be attacked for simply expressing an opinion on toy soldiers. This is supposed to be fun, not raise blood pressure. Mine is high enough. Remember and repeat, "This is a hobby. This is fun." JMHO. -- Al

Well, you would say that, cause mine are better than yours.

In fact, I'd take one of my $0.99 / £0.99 bag of plastic 'HK Specials' and put them up against any 10 of your best.

Unless one of them has a flamethrower. In which case I might be in trouble. :p

LOL. I don't think a flamethrower would do mine any good, either:D. As a kid, I proved many times that plastic and metal, mixed with flame, leaves you with a glob of former toy soldiers, no longer able to take the objective.:D:rolleyes::p:eek: -- Al

I believe the collapse of the resale market has killed the "beanie-baby factor" for most in k and c figures and subsequently cools interest. Now "valuable" and "rare" items are seen as having little value. No need to pursue "missed" items issued earlier. Reissue of earlier figs (tiger tanks) diminishes value of earlier sought after vehicles. Poly warbirds curb the market for wood.any idea of "investing" or even "getting your money back" is now gone. Tends to really cool buying enthusiasm.
