Guys

After years of languishing in the forum's basement singularly but quite happily fighting my own versions of the battles of ACW-basically playing toy soldiers- do I detect a sudden flurry of Yankee/Rebel interest on the boards?

What with Ken Osens recent sculpts for WB; CS's Mosby Raiders and 5th Texas Infantry; Conte's forthcoming Zouaves; FL's Gettysburg announcement and now Andy's latest K&C Union cavalry plus Lincoln and his generals I for one am left utterly spoilt for choice and as happy as a munchkin.

Fully aware that collecting ACW has always been popular amongst collectors across the world especially Stateside-just never been evident on our forum-but over the last couple of weeks these boards have been absolutely humming with blue and gray questions and comments from umpteen froggers and all of the posts garnering a tremendous amount of hits as well.

I mean good Lord even my very good pal Field Marshall Rob our very own WWII English Bulldog continues to enquire daily something ACW based and has recently filled my e-mail box with Gettysburg questions.

What on earth is going on?:confused::confused:

:D

I know this will sound like heresy to you Bob but I've been looking for a non WW2 sideline for sometime, something from a whole new era with new battles, personalities and uniforms to discover, and they don't get much bigger than the ACW.In a way the sheer scale, violence and humanity involved reminds me of WW1 that I've also had a passion for since I was eight years old.For this I will be using K&C,FL and hopefully some Conte.

But I'm not finished there!.(sound of Bob choking on his tea!)I also want to do a series of scenes from the History of the British Army, small moments from the sometimes glorious sometimes chaotic History of our armed forces. For this I will be using K&C,John Jenkins (superb looking new Sudan figs)WB (Zulus)

But don't worry Bob,you are not slipping into another world. As I slowly build these two collections I will of course still be collecting my WW2 and am looking forward to a great summer from K&C with Battle of Britain,D Day and Arnhem.

Sorry if I've bothered you with all my questions mate,I'll zip it for a while;)

All the best

Hi Rob

Always said you will "crumble" one day. Sorry it wasn't in favour of NAPs, but at least we now both collect ACW too.

Let's make more fun for all .. and why dun you post your questions on the forum .. so we can share. :)

Best wishes

Hey OD,well actually I have crumbled re Naps too.My other collection re moments from British Military History will definitely include Waterloo, and will feature that superb K&C set 'Seizing the colours'.

Glad we will be sharing the same theme. And I certainly will put questions on here as well mate,I'm going to need lots of advice and tips!:)

Cheers

ACW has always been my favorite military subject. I started collecting toy soldiers after I bought a few Britain's plastic ACW figures at Gettysburg. I was in a local hobby shop one day looking for more plastics when I came across the first releases of Britain's matt civil war figures. Been hooked ever since. If I was only able to collect one era it would be ACW.

UK Reb...
Hope it makes you feel better than worse... W. Britain already has nine ACW figures sets that will be in the upcoming mini supplement. Then of course there is the Fall/Winter catalog that will probably compound things a bit.
All the Best!

From famine to feast no less. And yes it makes me feel very fine-I was just curious of all the thread activity just lately- although obviously prompted by some new releases- this has rarely happened in my time on the forum when previous new ACW sets have been announced.

I have to admit that it is a bit refreshing to see almost as much buzz as there might be with a new Tiger I in three colour camo... almost.

There will be a lot of good choices for all of the collectors with the various manufacturers stepping up to the plate. I also think this will inspire folks to take a closer look at this terrible conflict and that will keep the dialogue fresh.

I am excited as anyone. Hopefully most of them will display well together, but the good news is that folks can always create individual displays and small vignettes and buy a little of everything.

After all you have done to enlighten and entertain us Bob; perhaps your efforts have simply born fruit.;):D

I should imagine the upcoming 150th anniversary has been the inspiration for all the makers to try to get a head start on the opposition. And with everyone trying to outdo each other Reb must think all his birthdays have come at once.

This is indeed good news Ken,looking forward to what WB will be doing for the ACW,we really are spoilt for choice!

Personally I am glad the Union is getting a look in.
I have always been a big Lincoln fan.
I am also glad the focus is Gettysburg.
I realize there are many other aspects of the war but for me I tend to focus on that one great Battle.

My very first lead figures were Union Sharpshooters, the ACW was one of my first history interests, many new inovations and changes in warfare happened during this period, its so interesting.Picketts charge on the third day of Gettysburg must have been a glorious and gory sight in its day, great to see K&C doing Union cav and special congrats to UKREB,our very own Fox Mulder, iam sure his PM will be bombarded for sometime to come,he has become our special advisor on ACW. PS i will be adding the new Union Cav to display alongside my Confederate Cav, Ken
