RAF Ambulance and rise in value (1 Viewer)

With talk recently about the rise in value of certain sets,I see the RAF ambulance has now sold out at K&C UK. With only 250 made so far surely this is a big step to this baby disappearing altogether. I'm really pleased to see this because its one of the things people have been asking Andy to make for ages and here it is, and collectors have responded in a very positive way.

And making it for ' Biggin on the Bump' is a great idea:cool:

The questions now are, will it go up in value and will Andy make more if all the 250 sell out?. Its funny because in one way I like the kind of exclusive tag of this vehicle, but in another way its so cool I'd like anyone who wants one to be able to grab it, what do you reckon guys?.

Rob.....I have to agree.....I have been waiting for the RAF series .....I will be obtaining all the sets in due time .....but I like the idea of only making a few of the Ambulance's...I find it adds a little excitement.....I never buy for personal gain and will keep to buying only one !!!!!!:D

I agree mate, I really like everything I buy so never sell it, but I know some folk buy and sell all the time. I also gradually work my way through the series buying as and when I can, for me this is one of K&C's very best ranges:)

I know its each to theri own but, I cannot understand why people will buy a set and, then sell it either to make room for another or, for any other reason that is often stated here.

I can understand selling a set for a profit but, thats about it. I don't have a collection like Larry lo etc but, could not contemplate selling the stuff I have.

All I want is for Andy N to figure out how to manufacturer a Lancaster for everyone as I fear when it comes round to me having the cash the warbirds will be gone

Because of space, money for new items, and a change in taste is why pieces get sold. If a collection is small, selling may not be needed, but if it is very large, then it becomes necessary.

As I said each to their own but, selling for me, is not an option. suppose it depends on what you class as small and large but, I know people with very large collection swho still would not sell. Its not a critique just something which, interests me

I agree with you Mitch, perhaps it is because my collection is not vast that I feel this way? I doubt it though. I love my collection and would rather go without than get rid of what I have.

My sentiments exactly. I have things which, were bought by my Gran for me before she passed away and, most of the older stuff my wife has got me so, its going in the box when I go on my next journey. I know some collectors who sadly cannot afford some things let alone get rid off, to bring in new. But, as I said its interesting to me what others do and why with their collections its not a criticism

I never took it as a critique. But my interests and what is available do change over time. So unless an item has a very special value or I am actively viewing it, there is no room for it. I do keep special pieces, some of which from when I began collecting so it's not like everything goes. There is a core collection that doesn't change.

Couldn't agree more with Terry. If you look at a collection as something frozen in time, I think you're making a mistake as I also view my collection as a source of revenue for new pieces. This has been oft discussed before so no need to completely beat this drum again.

Jazzeum...

Having only participated on this forum properly since may 2010 very much of what I am discussing with posters may be of a similar drum beat to posters such as yourself with the number of posts you have however, it is very new for myself and, a lot of other newer posters.

My apologies should you find these posts boring however, I am sure I am going to ask questions which have been asked before a number of times again, in the very near future.

I find the opinions shared interesting. One must become a bit jaded over time I suppose.

I believe you have to have open mind, that's all. One should never get too wedded to material possesions. The only parts of my collection that I really wouldn't want to sell are the Warbirds, the K & C glossy and the Desert collection. If I only had one thing to hang onto, itcwould be the glossy.

Again it is a to each his own situation.

I'll hang on to my soldiers I worked hard to earn the money to but them in the first place.

Been thinking hard about this one. I agree that these little guys are just possessions, albeit special ones. For myself I've amassed quite a number of pieces over the years and my interests continually sway back and forth. I really like my collection but practicality ( lack of space ) dictates that I will have to move some pieces in the near future to make way for the new pieces that are coming out that I really desire. Because these K&C pieces hold their value so well its comforting to know that by selling some I can help fund some future releases. I guess prioritizing is the name of the game.
Case in point, WS 051 ( SS machine gun group ) has been upgraded recently by WS 166 and I'll likely swap them. I'm not terribly sentimental and if a new release is superior to the old I've got to have it. Anyways that where I'm at in my collecting at this point in time.

I really find that these are, as they were when I was a kid, just toys. I could live without them. Could get rid of them. But I really enjoy having them, collecting them, thinking about the history that they some how can bring to life in my imagination. It's not like a movie where the action is dictated to me. With these guys I make the action, as the figures allows of course.

One thing I would not want to get rid of, is the time that I spend with my two boys, and my 3 year old little girl, talking about them. Setting them up. Talking about the people that really did all things things, FOR REAL!! So with these, I found another way to connect. Which is more valuable than anything I could ever imagine or collect materially.

The things I believe is; you can have things, just don't let things have you!

Its an interesting post listening to people about their collections but, its almost Budda like about material possesions. I value a great deal more than possesions but, I also value the things I have been given and, the things which, I have had to work hard for and, even, with all the talk of price and profit I can honestly state that I have never been tempted to release one single set from any maker from my collections.

As I said earlier, each to their own and, I understand why some people do certain things with their own collections and, thats fine but, for me, my private collection is, and always will be, my own.

Where u put them after u have so many?
I quest they call it recigling not selling
addition to the house maybe?

I really enjoy my collection and have no desire to sell it, but if I HAD to then I wouldn't think twice, they are after all only model soldiers. Actually my libary of History books would pull more at the heart strings if I had to sell it, my love of military History is my fave hobby:cool:
