Does anyone else have the Palm Trees that JG make...I just bought 4 of them for my Egypt line...although they are VERY expensive from the pictures I see they appear to be a quality item. Are they worth the extra $$?

WELLINGTON

Wellington,

The JG Palm trees are quality items and worth the money if you are interested in the best. They are very detailed and weathered. The branches and palms have a metal skeleton and can be shaped to your liking. BAR now has a new set of palm trees too, but they look like they belong in the Pacific, not Northern Africa.

Another option, as mentioned in previous posts, are the Department 56 palms that were part of the Bethlehem series and were made for the Middle East. The series has been retired and is getting harder to find. Even though they are decent, their quality is a close second compared to the JG palms. I am using a combination of both for a K & C Egyptian diorama (I needed several).

I hope you enjoy the Egyptian sets. Tell me what you think when you receive them, especially the Chariot.

Ken

Thanks Ken for the reply...I will let you know what I think when I receive my Order...I will also let you know about the JG Palms I Ordered from Tree Frog...I didn't need as many so I tried to go with what I thought was the best as well as opinions that other collectors gave me on the Forum such as yourself . I really didn't like the idea of a Palm shattering or breaking when I made my decision.

Do you already have the Chariot???

I have a couple of the Dept 56 Palms to add some color to Eighth Army and Panzer Armee troops facing off. They're excellent.

Wellington,

I have the chariot. It is a beautiful piece and I cannot imagine that you could possibly be disappointed in it. It is nicely sculpted and well painted. It will make a wonderful addition to your Egyptian collection.

I will caution you, however, that it does not always ship well. I had to return the first chariot I received because the wheels were broken beyond repair. However, the replacement chariot came through the shipping process without any problem whatsoever. Maybe my problem was unique as I have heard no other shipping complaints. But, then again, there has not been much discussion on the forum regarding the Egyptian figures (except the dancing girls, of course).

Assuming no problems with the shipping, I think you wil be delighted with the set. I think it is certainly worth the money and worth the wait to receive it. Let us know what you think of it after it arrives at your home.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hey guys/gals. I solved that problem by making my own palm trees. Each tree has at least twelve leaves on it. They are scratch made from top to bottom.......They range from 10" to 13" in height. The leaves have a wire down the middle so you can bend them the way you like.

I haven't placed any for sale yet because I have been using them for toy soldier advertisement dioramas. I have noticed the unreasonable prices of palm trees by some manufactures and they don't give you as many leaves as do. I'd have to figure out a fair and reasonable price or you can make me a fair offer and I will make them to your specs....;)

I have no idea how much to offer you so I'll have to leave it up to you to decide on a price at some stage. They don't need to be made to order as such but I would like palm trees that are more suited to desert display because I don't have any Marines or Japanese figs or vehicles. But I guess some similar to what you have in the pics would fit into desert scenes ok.

Nick,

Your palm trees look great! The ones that are shown in your pictures appear to be attached to the base of the diorama. Do the trees themselves have bases that could stand alone? In other words, do the trees have bases that would allow them to stand alone on a shelf? If so, I, too, might have an interest in purchasing some of them.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Dear Nick,

I agree, your palm trees look great! I would also be interested in purchasing some of your palm trees when you have the pricing figured out.:)

Dear Pat,
Those pictured are made without bases and can be placed anywhere on a non permanent diorama with a foam base.A base for my palm tree is very easy to apply. No problem.
Nick:)

Thanks Steven, I will figure out a price and have a base placed on them also as soon as I can.........

Okay my friend, after looking at every website that carries palm trees I finally came up with a fair and reasonable price for the size and craftsmanship that I have to offer. My palm trees will all vary because they are all made from scratch.....PM when you have the time for a price.....Thanks Steven for your interest....
Nick;)

I have heard that MOST Chariots shipped end up seperating from the base and as a result the wheels bend.....I hope this doesn't happen to me because I have NO interest in damaged products......:)

Nick,

I am also very impressed by your scratch built palm trees. Between your palm trees and Gordon's recent scratch build palm trees, we are going to have a lot of choices for desert and Pacific island dioramas.
