Guys,
I know the West Coaster Show 2011 on March 6th is a fair way off but when you live Downunder and it is a 15 hour flight to LA then you have to plan well in advance and take advantage of the cheap airfares with early bookings.:D
I was wondering if anyone had given any early thoughts about attending because it would be great to catch up again with all the good mates I met at last years West Coaster and Chicago. Also any early intel on lunchs, dinners, seminars, etc. like last year would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Howard:)

For the past several years, Rick Wang of Figarti Miniatures has held an event on Saturday afternoon talking about and showing their latest product offerings. It was originally a lunch, but has been changed to snacks. Also, Mike Hall of Sierra Toy Soldiers and Matt Murphy of Hobby Bunker have co-hosted a Saturday night event with Andy Nielson of King & Country. I wrote reviews of the 2007, 2008, and 2009 West Coaster shows and discussed these events in the respective June issues of Toy Soldier & Model Figure magazine, if you want to read more.

Would love to be there as its a highlight of the collecting year, but I'm afraid budget and distance are an issue, you guys who visit always do a great job in reporting for the forum and I really appreciate your efforts.

I will attend again this year.
Wandering Down the Halls and Through the Rooms
Filled with Toy Soldiers Is Always Fun.
The Most Difficult Thing Is Deciding What
Not To Buy.
At This Time, I am not sure of the Days
That I will be attending.
Most of my Standing Still Time will be
in the TSSD Rooms and
in Thomas Vida's Room of Vintage Marx.
See You In Irvine !

Tom,

I hope to see you there. I am going to try very hard to make it provided I am fit for "Toy Soldier Viewing Duty." We just need Lawrence to make it now as he is due for a West Coater fly-by!

I will never attend the west coaster for the simple fact that it would be a one way trip for me. :D:p God I miss the best coast

Anyway, Beau- I hope you are up and able to attend. I know how much that event means to you. if Lawrence attends, let me know so I can head up to NYC and ransack his collection....:D:p

You guys have fun!!

Marc,
We have to stick together - remember you are my wingman. Plus you have to keep in mind who you are dealing with. We like flying in planes - he likes jumping out of perfectly good airplanes:p:eek::D Go Navy, Beat Army!

I've attended the Figarti get-to-gether three of the past four years. Can anyone tell me how to sign up for this year's?

Get outta here!! :D:p

Hey fellas- one thing I would like to clarify. All apologies if anyone came to the conclusion I was airborne qualified- I am not. I have seen a couple of these references before and just don't want to be disgraced with stolen valor. Trust me, I was all but given a lawful order to go to jump school but deployments/training etc just never made it.

Please note this as well- I wasn't with the 101st either- I was with the Second Infantry Division when I was Currahee. In fact, since Viet Nam, the 101st is airborne in name only. They are what we call "Air Assault" now- where they repel out of helicopters, etc. Think "We were soldiers once"- that is essentially what the 101st has been doing since WW2.

I chose "Currahee" because it was easily the greatest unit I was ever assigned to. I take great pride in the fact I was with the regiment and part of our storied history. I pulled my fair share of patrols along the DMZ with North Korea in steaming hot summers, freezing rain and ice, snow, and in the bitter darkness. But alas, I never went on patrol out the side of an airplane- did a few times with Blackhawks, just not an airplane.

Terribly sorry for the confusion- to me, and guys of my generation, the 101 has always been air assault. It took me a moment- and quite honestly, the passing of Major Winters to see that maybe some of you guys thought I was a jumper.

Like I said, I just don't want to be seen as committing stolen valor or nothing. I am terribly proud of my service and I do not need to overinflate in on a forum

Take care
CC

Looking forward to plenty of new releases from all the manufacturers

See you dudes at the show. Booked the room and short jumper flights today for myself and KGB. Looking forward to seeing the new dealer realeases and hearing news of their upcoming products. Maybe I'll even tell a few good akward tales of my recent Italy trip.

Keep it silly.

I have never been before...the show is Sunday...what is the best day to arrive and what should I expect...I know that's a very general question...but feel free to freelance and expand...

is there trading before Sunday...when and where please...do you just roam the halls looking for open doors...

Michael mate,
It would be fantastic to catch up with you, as we have discussed at the Show. My routine is going to be the same as last year. I fly in from the Land of OZ on the Thursday morning arriving at the Hotel about lunch time and enjoying a great lunch at the Bar with Tom and Hans. Some rooms are open that afternoon and night for room trading, but most open on the Friday.
I like to try and beat Carlos to the early bargains but he is super quick and has the experience on his side. Saturday is more room trading on two floors of the hotel only broken up by usually a Figarti lunch and a K&C event at 6.30pm hosted by Sierra Toy Soldiers and bit more fellowship at the Bar catching up with old mates and meeting new ones. I especially like to meet Treefroggers that I haven't met before. Even the ones I have had a spat with so we can bury the hatch over a cold beer.
Then Sunday the ballroon doors open for the show which the room traders move down to and more traders come in only for the day and more buying begins.
I enjoy the entire show from picking up sets that I don't have to chewing the fat with new and old mates.
Hope this helps young Michael. Just an Aussie point of view.:):)
Cheers Howard

Howard...

you're too cool to help me out...

the show is at the Marriott Irvine..is that correct....
how close is it to the airport...
do they shuttle us...
I assume everyone stays at the Marriott Irvine hotel...
they quoted me a show room rate of $123...
is there anything to do in the evenings that you know of...

anybody can chime in...

thanks Howard...

Michael mate,
The Show is at the Marriott Irvine and is about one hours drive from LAX by taxi $110 or which I used last year an airport shuttle about $45 takes a little longer because of drop offs along the way but gives you more cash to spend on TS.
If your flying in from Texas then you might consider going direct to John Wayne (what a fantastic name for an airport) Airport which is about five minutes from the Hotel. I used that Airport last year when I left LA to fly to San Antonio.
What do you do in the evening???? Well cobber with a Hotel full of TS collectors and Treefroggers, you Party.:D:D:D Enjoy meeting new mates and catching up with old ones and you can also wander the Open Rooms spending your had earned cash. If you come across BM03 let me know.
Cheers Howard
