Many thanks Larry, glad you like the square :salute::Very nice Martyn! Would you happen to know about how many soldiers formed a square and where the artillery or gatling guns were situated (corner of the square or in the interior). Any help appreciated. Thanks. Lawrence
Thanks for that diagram Martyn, however I am not looking forward to the expense of recreating this using WB figures {sm2}{sm3}{sm4}

Here is a diagram of the square at Ulundi in the Zulu War, I have circled the Gatling guns, 7-pounder and 9-pounder guns

I guess there was no definitive number of soldiers to form a square, it would depend on the number of soldiers the commanding officer had available. I've been having a look through my copies of ILN 1884 and 1885 to see if I can find a sketch of a square in the Sudan but nothing yet
Cheers

I used to be a Trophy collector with some 200 figures at one time. In those days you could buy a set of 6 for 89$ - 99$. Now 2 -3 figures run that..Michael
A lovely setup, Martyn...looking forward to seeing it with attackers.
