I recently received the RAF Tilly as a present, which is great as I love all things RAF! The only trouble is I already own all three versions!!! My question is does anyone know how much these go for on the secondary market? Ive tried looking for them on the net & Ebay but got nowhere lol

Cheers Craig

Could be people are holding onto them mate, they are a superb release and maybe folk don't want to let them go. I can see them being worth quite a few Bob in future.

Craig,

It's a buyer's market on these right now. Two (including one of mine :() sold under retail this week. If yours was a gift, then I suppose it's no big deal but I'd probably hang onto it for the time being.

So true...But the good news in all of this is that the profits of speculators is being cut.:smile2:

Really :rolleyes2: Who do you think has been buying them up a below MSRP for big profits in the near future :wink2: {sm3}{sm4}{sm4}

That is quite right. I hadn't purchased it with a view to resale but the buyer is a person who obviously intends to re-sell it.

If I am of the gambling type, I would wager these will enjoy a small premium in the future, give it 6 months to a year.

In my opinion,
TD

By the way, what the heck is wrong with a secondary market profit????? This is a capitalistic society is it not????

Absolutley agree, these will in time become rare and I believe will go up in price in the future.

Also I think some of the talk of people buying to sell is becoming hysterical, if dealers want to limit these sort of releases to one per collector thats fine by me, but if the collector wants or needs to sell his one vehicle in the future there is no reason why he shouldn't. Peoples situations or collecting preferences can change and if they want to raise some money and are willing to let go the item why not. I don't think we need lectures from those who perhaps for there own reasons don't want to see K&C items go up in price.

I say all this as a collector who never sells any K&C, but who when he kicks the bucket wants his better half to sell everything so she can perhaps enjoy the rewards.

I don't buy to speculate, but I do sell items as my collecting tastes change. In most cases where I bought an item on the resale market, I rarely remember what I paid for it so have no idea if I made a "profit" or a "loss" when I sell it and don't care enough to keep track. If I bought the item new from a dealer, I can look up on the internet the price I paid and add in taxes and delivery, if any, to come up with my cost. I've sold items for less than I paid and for more than I paid - overall it seems to work out about even.

To me the only real speculation is when someone buys up several of a hard to find item to hold for years in the hopes prices will go up and then sell for a profit and deprive real collectors of the chance to get one when it is issued. Given the state of the TS industry with oversupply and lots of choice for models, I think speculation is extremely risky and not worth the effort. I doubt if speculators are doubling or tripling their initial cost on sale. Just look at popular items that sold out 3 or 4 years ago. How many of them are now selling for big gains? Not many. Anyone disagrees - name them.

As for people who buy "one" for their collection and later decide to sell it, since no one compensates them if it sells for less than they paid, I don't think much of people who criticize if the collector gets more on resale than he paid originally. IMO, this speculation fearmongering is way overdone and does not have much impact on the industry or on real collectors. Remember the panic to buy a Tilley? How hard is it to get one now? How expensive?

I don't know how anyone can speculate what will become rare in the future. I recal everyone going mad about the Flak 41 and its price and that it would sit around for years but, it vanished in the UK and elsewhere within a few days of release. Some SL's have hung around for a long time when I expected them to fly out while others get zapped up really quickly. I don't think these ''speculators'' are sinister people trying to manipulate prices and values on sets they are collectors and, to a lesser extent dealers buying a couple of sets hoping they may go rare. Its like the lottery who knows.

I know, I have little interest in e-bay but, know of many deals where things are sold privately where prices hold their value at the least and more often than not increase as compared to e-bay. I suppose it depends on who you are as to how happy you are with a price should you wish to part with your sets

I totally agree... I was a bidder on eBay for a few very hard to find pieces that were produced in the early 1990's... the LAH berlin facade, the Roman Arc of Triumph and the Edinburgh castle facade, Goering's blue staff car and the Afrika Korps sdfz 222.

They've cost me a fortune. In return, I gained my childhood memory, pieces that I dreamed of when I did window shopping at K&C's retail shop in Hong Kong.

Unfortunately, I don't believe there are as many die hard collectors like me out there, willing to spend so much money on toys (which also includes keeping Andy's wallet fat by buying the new items at the same time). Furthermore, only the 1990's and 1980's hard to find items are still selling for crazy prices... most post 2000 retired productions are not too hard to find.

Maybe wait for a decade to pass, and the 2000's items will sell for a higher price. Get real dudes!

Thanks for all the feedback guys think I might sit on it for a while as it was a present its not costing me anything.

Mitch you can still pick up Flak 41 & the jagdtiger from dealers as there still not sold out :wink2:

If all this comes down to speculation, where is the fun?

And if there are only like 200 / 300 collectors world wide ?

I wonder

Purchasing for speculation is ridiculous especially these days....Even more ridiculous is purchasing out of "fear" that the item may sell out...All marketing ploys and foolishness.......The days of profits on e-bay by horders and speculators are almost gone...Most folks are tired of these silly games......buy it because you like it..... because you will be stuck with it for quite a while....these are toys not investments
