Gentle Friends,
Things are not always as they seem in public. For example, one individual posted a note on the forum indicating he had inherited a large collection from his father. As you might imagine, he knew nothing about toy soldiers and he asked for assistance in determining what he possessed, what the value of the figures might be, and how to best dispose of the collection. Quietly, another forum member and myself contacted the fellow and offered our assistance. Our assistance was never viewed on the forum.
As a result helping this individual, he presented us with some truly fine toy soldier gifts from his father's collection. The figures he gave us are highly prized as they represent his gratitude and as they are long since retired figures. None of this interaction appeared on the forum, yet he was highly appreciative and we received very unexpected rewards for our freely donated assistance.
While there are persons who only enter the forum to gain assistance in the evaluation and disposal of a collection and who rudely never indicate any appreciation for our assistance, my general philosophy is to help another person in any appropriate manner I can. Many times, there are unexpected, but positive, outcomes. And,...my services, such as they are, are hardly worth any financial compensation.:wink2:^&grin
Warmest personal regards,
Pat :smile2:
