Another day of rain here . . . giving me an opportunity and time to research possible log houses in Gettysburg during the battle. Found two possibilities; the Spangler farmhouse (part log and part stone), and the Daniel Klingel farmhouse on Emmitsburg Road. Soldiers at the time of the battle described it as a large log house. Further research found that the Klingel home has been recently restored by the Park Service to its original log appearance during the battle in 1863. The Park Service has removed the board siding which had been placed over the logs sometime after the war and restored the original logs underneath. By arranging my farmhouse and smokehouse in such a way that they appear to be one structure, makes a reasonable replication of the Klingel house at the time of the battle . . . .

Seeley's Battery Takes On Wilcox's Brigade
Battle of Gettysburg, 4:00 p.m., July 2, 1863

A section of Lt. Francis Seeley's Battery of six Napoleon 12-pounders (Battery K, 4th U.S. Artillery) assigned to Maj Gen Humphries Division of the Union Third Corps, takes up positions along the Emmitsburg Road in front of and to the left of the Klingel house and prepare to fire upon the advancing Confederates of Brig Gen Cadmus Wilcox's Alabama Brigade. Supporting the battery are the infantry regiments of Brig Gen Carr's brigade.

More fantastic dio pics. Those are great buildings. When will the small smoke house be available ? Does anyone have any plans to produce that fiberglass ladder ? :)

Your comment about the fiberglass ladder made me laugh Paul. It was the only photo I found of the exposed logs . . . most existing photos of the Klingel house show it with the wood siding . . . I suppose the Rebs and Yanks climbed up that ladder to get a better look at what was going on around them :tongue::wink2:. The smoke house is available now . . . there were several for sale at the OTSN show in the Traverse Dioramics room. It is very nicely done . . . the interior of it is also detailed including the fire pit.

You are making me add those buildings to my wish list. Perhaps I can fit the ladder into next year's budget. Interesting info on changes to the Klingle house. I didn't catch that they had changed it when I visited again in June.

Excellent pictures Mike:salute::

Cheers

Martyn:)

Thanks Dan and Martyn . . .
